Photos: It’s Navy Week in Carson City, Douglas and Reno
Rear Admiral Bruce L. Gillingham, the Surgeon General of the United State Navy, met with local dignitaries at the Carson City Chamber on Thursday, Sept. 29 to provide insight into how the U.S. Navy is protecting our country.
Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell presented a city proclamation declaring this as Navy Week in our city and members of the Carson City Navy League and those who were on hand to help launch the USNS Carson City in Mobile, Alabama on Jan. 16, 2016 were present including the first captain, Bob Wiley, who lives in Carson City, and ship sponsor Susan Crowell.
Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill as were the Carson High JR ROTC Commander and Executive Office Daniel Meyer and their instructor as well as members of the Carson City Chamber Board of Directors.
Meanwhile, the famed Blue Angels will once again dance across the sky at the Minden-Tahoe Airport’s Aviation Roundup, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday.
The Minden-Tahoe Airshow is a bi-annual event showcasing airshow performers, aerobatic performers, military jet demonstrations, and more. Gates open at 9 a.m. both days and parking is free. It’s encouraged to bring either a lawn chair or a blanket to watch the festivities.
Tickets are available online in advance at AviationRoundup.com and are $30 for adults or $20 for children 12-17. A family pack, which includes two adults and up to four children, is $125 and children under 12 are free.
Event organizers encourage attendees to avoid the ticket lines and purchase online in advance.
