Traffic backed up due to chase, traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists

Our poor trees, shrubs and other plants are stuck in place, "standing" in scorching sun and dealing with desiccating winds and high temperatures. Humidity is low and there’s little chance of a significant rain event until the fall.

It’s up to us to provide what our plants need to survive the heat.

Organizers of the annual Taste of Downtown in Carson City anticipated another sell-out year in 2018, and if the crowds along North Carson Street Saturday night were any indication, they may be right.

UPDATE: 4:45PM: At 4:05 p.m. Saturday, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 10 miles southwest of Gardnerville, moving north at 10 mph. Dime size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with this storm. Brief heavy rain is also possible with this storm. Outflow winds could reach as far northwest as South Lake Tahoe.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Thunderstorms will develop across the region over the next few hours with a few strong thunderstorms likely by mid-afternoon, according to a report from the National Weather Service in Reno.

At approximately 12:49 am, July 21, 2018 the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of possible shots fired at the shopping center parking lot on Pine Cone Road in Dayton.

The fire appears to be burning partly on BLM and partly on Carson City land, incident command reported.

UPDATE: 11:32 AM: One lane of eastbound William Street between Humboldt and Gold Dust Way has been reopened to traffic, law enforcement on scene report.

Carson City emergency crews are responding to a motorcycle trike versus automobile accident that occurred on East William Street and Gold Dust Way.

Reno Lumber, a wholesale lumber supplier in the Truckee Meadows, is expanding its retail operations to Carson City and changing its name to Reno Carson Lumber, said General Manager Chris Fleiner.

I have long found it impossible to decide which Carson City event is my favorite: forever waffling between Nevada Day and the Taste of Downtown. Seeing as the annual parade is still months away, I’m going to side with ‘The Taste’ purely for its timeliness. CARSON CITY — The US Forest Service projects as many as 26 million trees will die this year from drought or beetles, and that estimate is down from 27 million in 2017 and a peak of more than 60 million in 2016. Average global temperatures are rising, and some models show as much as a 7 degree increase in average annual temperature in the Sierra Nevada mountains by the end of the century.

This week's edition of It's Your City features all things Taste of Downtown, the 25th annual culinary extravaganza happens this Saturday in Carson City.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Friday afternoon to a structure fire in the 2300 block of Star Way in east Carson City.

A Carson City man was arrested Thursday evening for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving, a sheriff's deputy said.

The Carson City Fire Department and multiple fire agencies from around the region are holding firefighting training exercises Friday in the area of South Nevada Street. Smoke will be used as part of the exercise.
