Flash Flood Watch issued for Carson City, surrounding areas
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect Sunday for the Greater Lake Tahoe area, including Carson City and the Carson Valley, through Sunday evening, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.
Thunderstorms with very heavy rain are forecast again Sunday, bringing an increased flash flood threat. This threat is enhanced by the already saturated soils from rainfall over the past two days.
Locations especially prone to flooding include burn scars, steep terrain, and locations which received heavy rain over the past two days.
Areas affected include portions of Mono and Alpine Counties, the Carson Range east of the Tahoe Basin and the western Nevada Sierra Front.
People in the watch area should continue to be aware of the possibility for heavy rainfall, avoid low lying areas, and be careful when approaching highway dips and underpasses.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the road. The road may be washed out or the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.
If necessary, warnings will be issued as storms develop in specific locations.
