Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Drug bust results in three arrests

Three people were taken into custody Friday morning at 7:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of South Carson Street, Carson City Sheriff's deputies said, each charged with felony possession of methamphetamine.

Christopher Fred, 42, and 46 year-old Marcelene McGarva, both transients, and Abel Perez, 36, of Carson City were all taken into custody after Sheriff's deputies responded to the area on report of a possible burglary in progress.

The reporting party (RP) told arriving deputies two males and a female were observed taking an entire bathroom window out of its frame from a motel room. One male suspect was observed entering the motel room through the window.

Deputies on scene observed the window partially falling out of its frame. Three subjects were contacted at the front of the corresponding motel room. A female subject, later identified as McGarva, answered the door and two male subjects, later identified as Perez and Fred, were observed seated on the bed in the room, the arrest report said.

All three suspects were recognized by law enforcement from prior contacts. During initial contact at the door with McGarva, Perez looked at the deputies, displaying the middle finger and stating, "F--- the police."

McGarva told deputies that she and Perez rent the room together, and Fred was her cousin. She admitted that they took the window out of the frame and that Fred crawled through the window inside the room.

All three subjects, appearing intoxicated with red, watery eyes and heavy, thick speech, were asked to come outside and sit on the sidewalk. All three complied. Fred was observed to have a large abrasion above his right eye. When asked what had happened, Fred replied that he could not remember.

A strong odor of alcohol could be smelled coming from all three suspects.

McGarva stated she had a room key and asked if she could retrieve it. She gave consent for officers to enter the motel room with her, the report said.

A green glass pipe in plain view of the deputies was seen with white and black residue inside of it, consistent with meth use. Inside the bowl of the pipe was seen a crystal rock substance consistent with meth, the report said, and a small baggie containing white powder residue was also observed in plain view.

Deputies on scene were advised by the previous shift that law enforcement had several contacts with all three individuals throughout the evening.

McGarva was unable to produce a room key, but deputies deduced she and one of the males likely lived their based on the belongings seen inside. A property manager arrived on scene and confirmed Perez and McGarva were the renters. Fred was not identified as a renter occupant of the room.

The manager was asked to observe the damage to the window, and he was given permission to enter the room and inspect the window. The manager said he wanted to press charges, estimating window damage to be about $400.

Fred was detained in handcuffs and arrested for property destruction, possession of meth and drug paraphernalia. McGarva and Perez were both arrested for felony meth possession and drug paraphernalia possession.

The three were transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $2,500 each.

In other arrests:

— A 30 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 2:18 a.m. in the area of Robinson and Stewart streets on two misdemeanor violations, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, including intoxicated pedestrian and obstruction.

The suspect was also arrested for three outstanding misdemeanor warrants issued by justice courts out of Carson City, Reno Township and East Fork Township in Douglas County.

According to the report, Sheriff's deputies responded to a business in the area on a trespassing report. The suspect had been located, but then fled from an arriving deputy.

He tore away from one officer after being told to stop and a foot chase ensued.

The suspect was eventually stopped and detained by law enforcement, but he was uncooperative with questions from deputies, the report said, and refused to provide identifying information.

The suspect was handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail, where he did provide verbal identification. A records check confirmed the three active bench warrants. Bail: $3,000.

— A 57 year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Saturday morning at 3:18 a.m. in the 200 block of West Caroline Street for misdemeanor first-offense domestic battery and a violation of suspended sentence through the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

According to the arrest report, Sheriff's deputies responded to the area on report of a domestic dispute. The RP reported a heated argument between a male and female to Carson City Dispatch.

Arriving deputies could hear the argument taking place in a motel room at the scene. A male emerged from the room during the argument and was contacted by law enforcement. The male reported he and his wife were having an argument.

Then the female emerged from the room and the parties were separated, the report said.

The female subject reported that she had pushed the male during the argument, the report said. The male reported that the female had aggressively struck him during the argument.

Deputies determined that the woman was the sole aggressor in domestic battery. She was handcuffed and taken into custody, transported to the Carson City Jail for booking.

Carson City Dispatch advised that the suspect was also in violation of conditions to obey all laws as set forth by DAS on a prior charge. Bail: $3,000.

— A 26 year-old South Lake Tahoe, CA, man was arrested Saturday morning at 4:54 p.m. in the area of Interstate 580 and Koontz Lane for misdemeanor first-offense driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy made a traffic stop on a gray sedan located in the center median of the freeway and appeared to have struck the concrete wall on the right shoulder before crossing all lanes and coming to rest in the center median.

Law enforcement contacted the driver, who reported he had fallen asleep at the wheel and over-corrected. Alcohol odor could be smelled coming from the driver, who also exhibited slurred speech and red, watery eyes, the report said.

The suspect driver consented to field sobriety testing (FST), which showed signs of impairment. A preliminary breath test (PBT) was also consented to and yielded breath-alcohol content (BAC) of .122 percent.

He was handcuffed and taken into custody at that point, transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $1,000.

All information for the crime log (unless otherwise noted) comes from the arrest reports supplied by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and is considered by law to be public information. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The policy of Carson Now is to name anyone who is arrested for a felony offense.
