Carson City deputies make weekend arrests for drug possession, domestic battery and other offenses

Two were arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony drug possession and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Ashley Michelle Arzner, 35, and Casey Lee Wnorowski, 37, both of Medford, Oregon were arrested in the 1200 block of South Carson Street booked into jail at 11:34 a.m.

Wnorowski was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, 6.1 grams of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bail amount listed: $3,500.

Arzner was arrested for suspicion of possession of 1.1 grams of methamphetamine, a felony, gross misdemeanor possession of Xanax without a prescription, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bail amount listed: $6,000.

In other arrests:
The Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a 62-year-old man early Saturday for a felony failure to appear warrant and for obstructing officers following a standoff with deputies.

Duane DeCastro was taken into custody at 12:38 a.m. at a Brown Street residence.

According to the booking report, officers assigned to SET went to the Brown Street residence to serve a felony arrest warrant on DeCastro. Officers received information the man was inside the residence. Deputies knocked several times and announced their presence with the sheriff's office.

DeCastro refused to surrender. His pickup was parked in the driveway and there were CCTV cameras pointed forward in front of the residence. Knowing the man had previously been in possession of firearms, deputies surrounded the residence and started announcing that he should surrender. He refused for approximately 30 minutes, according to the report.

A tactical operation team formed at the residence to devise plan to safely apprehend DeCastro. Public address announcements continued throughout the operation from a police vehicle, the arrest report states.

CCSO elected to perform limited destruction to windows to search the structure safely from the outside rather than a forced entry. Four windows were broken on the south side of the residence to allow officers to safely search the interior of the building from the outside. Upon breaking the bedroom window, the suspect began yelling at the tactical team. He surrendered and was not injured.

DeCastro's refusal to obey lawful orders to surrender resulted in approximately 15 law enforcement officers, an ambulance and 2 paramedics being dedicated to the incident, the report states. He was held without bail in lieu of a district court hearing. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing officers.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday at the Sheriff's Office, 911 East Musser for a warrant that alleges drawing a weapon in a threatening manner and battery, both misdemeanor offenses. Bail: $500.

— A 51-year-old Carson City man, Christopher Connell, was arrested for suspicion of violation of an extended protection order, a felony offense. Bail: $10,000.

— A 37-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday for a misdemeanor warrant for violation of a suspended sentence, driving on a revoked license and driving with suspended registration. Bail: $1,769.

— A 43-year-old man, Michael Duane Alliston, was arrested Friday for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and and four misdemeanor offenses: Suspicion of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license, driving without valid insurance, and a warrant hold out of Reno Justice Court. Bail: $5,000.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 4:08 a.m. for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI. According to the booking report, a deputy was traveling southbound on Carson Street and observed a vehicle traveling northbound without its headlights on. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver.

The deputy informed him the reason for being pulled over. The man provided his driver's license, insurance and registration. The officer could smell a slight odor of alcohol coming from his person. The driver also had red, watery eyes and slurred speech. The driver agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .127. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. The man agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,137.

— A Carson City man, Ian David Shatswell, was arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony parole and probation violation, misdemeanor domestic battery and gross misdemeanor injury to a vehicle, destruction of property.

According to the booking report, on April 25 at 2:10 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a residence regarding a domestic battery in progress.

When the deputies arrived they contacted the male suspect sitting in front of the residence. He appeared to be extremely intoxicated with an unsteady gate, slurred speech and a very strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person, the arrest report states. He submitted a preliminary breath test of .258.

Deputies spoke with the victim, who was distraught and crying. A deputy observed red marks on her arms and a small abrasion that was bleeding. Officers learned the suspect called her names and became verbally aggressive toward her, according to the arrest report.

The woman retreated to her room to pack her belongings and leave. The victim stated the man then pounded on the door, and forced his way inside. The woman stated she pushed him in order to get him out of the way, but that her efforts were brushed off by the man. The man then grabbed the woman by the arms and threw her to the ground and told her she was not leaving, the report states. At some point, the man walked outside and began kicking the side of the victim's vehicle door.

A witness nearby confirmed to deputies they saw the suspect damage the driver's door by kicking it. A deputy later spoke with a vehicle sales manager, who stated a complete door replacement on the vehicle would cost around $4,000.

The door was severely damaged and dented due to Shatswell allegedly kicking it. He was arrested and booked into jail for suspicion of domestic battery, destruction of property and the felony parole and probation violation. Bail amount listed for domestic battery and destruction of property, $5,637. He was being held without bail in lieu of a hearing for felony suspicion of parole and probation violation.

— A 46-year-old Carson city man was arrested Saturday for a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence warrant issued out of Carson City Municipal Court. Bail: $1,000 cash.

— A 35-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail Saturday for misdemeanor suspicion of probation violation. According to the arrest report, the woman consented to a search of her backpack, which contained an unopened can of Steel Reserve malt liquor. The woman was on probation through the Department of Alternative Sentencing with a no alcohol condition. DAS wanted the woman be arrested for suspicion of probation violation. Bail: $3,000.

— A 46-year-old man, Theodore Sanchez, was arrested Saturday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony and the following misdemeanor offenses: possession of drug paraphernalia, expired registration and being an ex-felon failing to register. Bail: $3,951.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man, Trevor Cullen Bryant, was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony drug possession and multiple misdemeanor offenses.

According to the booking report, a Carson City sheriff's deputy observed a black BMW with no license plates traveling westbound on William Street near Gold Dust Way. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, Bryant, was identified by his Nevada ID card. A records check showed he had a suspended license. The officer asked him for auto insurance and a registration card, which he could not provide.

While speaking, Bryant stated he had been released from prison on March 25 and was incarcerated for burglary. He stated the address where he was living. The deputy read through the criminal history and saw he is required to register as an ex-felon within 48 hours of moving to Carson City. He had not done so. Due to the fact that he was driving on a suspended license and didn't have vehicle insurance and his vehicle was not registered, the officer made the decision to have the vehicle towed, the report states.

During an inventory search of the vehicle the deputy located a zip lock bag wedged between the driver's seat and the middle console, which contained 3.5 grams of suspect methamphetamine.

Also located in the bag was a glass pipe and hypodermic needle that was loaded, as well as a spoon and tourniquet. He was booked for suspicion possession of a controlled substance, a felony. He was also booked for the following alleged misdemeanor offenses: possession of drug paraphernalia, ex-felon failing to registered, driving on a suspended license, no insurance and no license plates. Total bail amount listed: $5,325.
