Carson City arrests: Woman jailed in merchandise fraud scheme at Walmart
A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday for felony suspicion of obtaining money under false pretenses after allegedly selecting merchandise from a store and getting money for the items from customer service, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Lindsay Ann Hammers was booked into custody a 2:12 p.m. According to the arrest report deputies were called to the Walmart store in the 3200 block of Market Street regarding a fraud report and met with store loss prevention. The security officer advised he observed the woman select a pair of boots, two pairs of pants and another clothing item from store shelves.
The woman then proceeded past all points of pay and went straight to customer service. While she was at customer service she returned the items she had just selected instead of purchasing them. Customer service gave the woman $112.34 for the fraudulent return, the arrest report states.
The woman went to the west side grocery doors and exited the store. The officer identified himself to the woman as Walmart security and attempted to apprehend her but she took off running westbound through the parking lot, the arrest report states.
A Carson City sheriff's deputy located the woman at the Catalina Apartments and brought her back to the store. Another deputy advised her of her Miranda rights. The woman voluntarily agreed to speak and confessed to the fraudulent return. Bail: $20,000.
