WNC information director Anne Hansen earns career service NCMPR Petrizzo Award
The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations presented Anne Hansen, of Reno, Nev., the 2016 D. Richard Petrizzo Career Service Award at its annual conference here in March.
Named for a former NCMPR president who helped shape the organization in its early years, the Petrizzo Award honors an NCMPR professional for longtime accomplishments in college marketing and public relations.
Director of information and marketing services at Western Nevada College in Carson City since 1986, Hansen is responsible for internal and external communications, media relations, information services, publications and website marketing. She also participates in strategic planning and outreach for WNC and serves as its primary media representative.
Hansen led the charge to develop a new brand and secure buy-in from the college and community after the college received approval to offer four-year degrees, changing its name from Western Nevada Community College to Western Nevada College.
Her supervisor, Mark Ghan, WNC vice president of legal and administrative services, said, “Anne is passionate about her responsibilities and dedicated to Western Nevada College and its brand. People know she is committed and when she speaks, we listen!”
Hansen has been an active participant in regional, state and national organizations, helping to advance the profession, inspire others and generously share her expertise.
Her NCMPR involvement includes serving as a two-term District 6 director and, in 2005-2006, as national president. She has earned more than 30 regional and national awards, including a Telly Award and multiple national NCMPR Paragon Awards. District 6 named her 2008 Communicator of the Year.
A longtime member of the Rotary Club of Carson City, Hansen recently completed her term as the organization’s president and for years has chaired its scholarship committee. Hansen also serves on the Nevada System of Higher Education Government Affairs committee.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Hansen graduated from the University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and French, and from the University of Nevada-Reno with a master’s degree in journalism.
NCMPR supports the professional development of community college communicators, serving more than 1,700 members from nearly 550 colleges across the United States and Canada. It is the only organization of its kind that exclusively represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges and is one of the largest affiliates of the American Association of Community Colleges.
