Carson City Sheriff's Office arrests: Man jailed for suspicion of DUI, having stolen gun
A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday morning for felony suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm and other charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Arrested was Guy Christopher Schneider. He also faces charges of possession of a firearm while intoxicated and suspicion of DUI, both misdemeanors.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was called to a report of a possible intoxicated driver. The officer located the vehicle, observing the driver was slumped forward with his chin in his chest in the vehicle with the engine running.
The officer observed the driver not moving, and that the vehicle was in gear, with the automatic gear shifter pulled back to drive position with the foot resting on the brake pedal, the arrest report states.
Not knowing if the driver was distressed due to a possible medical condition, the officer reached into an open window and turned the vehicle off, removing the key from the ignition and placing it on the roof of the vehicle. The officer attempted to wake the man, and announced "sheriff’s office" loudly, the arrest report states. The man then leaned to his side and removed his wallet from his pant pocket. The deputy observed the man had a pistol holster on his left hip and could see the grip of the pistol.
The man had a strong odor of alcohol as he spoke. He was asked to step out of the vehicle. The officer conducted a pat search of the man and asked if he would perform standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed and showed signs of impairment, failing all four of the tests. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .172. He was arrested at 1:10 a.m. for suspicion of DUI.
A second deputy assisted with the stop. During an inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed, officers located three firearms in the vehicle. Wants and warrants were conducted on all three firearms. The sheriff’s office was advised that one of the firearms was listed as stolen out of Lyon County. At jail the man provided evidentiary breath tests of .165 and .176. Bail: $22,274.
