Applications sought: Carson City Sheriff's Office to host 12-week Citizen's Academy
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong is opening the doors of the sheriff's office for 12 consecutive Wednesday nights as part of its annual Citizen's Academy, which enables residents to have a better understanding of the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The opportunity is open to all residents 18 years of age and older and geared to Carson City citizens.
Sheriff Furlong is committed to having a strong partnership with the citizens of Carson City and the community at large. This important partnership between CCSO and its citizens makes the community a safer and better place to live.
Each academy session will start with a question and answer period by Sheriff Furlong. Each department of the Sheriff's Office will be teaching a session over the 12 weeks. Academy participants will tour the detention center, make an on-site visit to the Communications 911 Dispatch Center and hear speakers from division including Patrol, Crime Lab, Evidence, Investigations, Special Enforcement Team, Gang Unit, DUI and traffic regulations, Domestic Violence and Elderly Abuse, Search and Rescue, Nevada Highway Patrol. There will also be on-site demonstrations of the K-9 division and SWAT.
Classes begin May 1 and will run to July 17 on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Ormsby Room at the Sheriff's Office, 911 East Musser Street. The SWAT demonstration will be held at Fire Station 52 on College Parkway and an on-site visit to the Dispatch Center.
