A one-day workshop for beginning beekeepers will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the Catholic Center, 311 Virginia St, Yerington, Nev. The workshop is focused and designed for individuals with little or no beekeeping experience.

What happened is that a small group of committed beekeepers decided to approach the city with the idea, and then worked tirelessly for two years with Carson City Board of Supervisors and Mayor Bob Crowell to develop an organization committed to protecting pollinator habitat within the city boundaries.

Chinese New Year, Carson Comedy Club's military appreciation night, live music and more: Carson City region readies for weekend

Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

Carson City Bee Hotel now open for business thanks to Chamber students

Released behind the Carson Tahoe Health Cancer Center at the trailhead of the one-mile long Serenity Trail on Thursday, 150 Mason bees couldn’t wait to be freed from their boxes by their foster mother, Debra Conrad, a member of the class who kept the bees until they could be released.

They were joined by the Greenhouse Garden Center, the Carson City Chamber Leadership Group of 2019, and the Great Basin Beekeepers of Nevada. Each organization presented their information on the variety of aspects that make a successful garden.

Over 100 Nevadans protested, testified against Senate Bee Bill in Carson City Thursday
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 04/05/2019 - 10:08amCarson City was abuzz Thursday evening at the Nevada State Legislature, in which over 100 Nevadan residents gathered to support honeybees, and their ability to be kept by residents.
Senate Bill 389, relating to the ability to keep bees in residential zones in Nevada, which has been hotly debated since it was announced on March 20, was read during a Natural Resources Committee meeting Wednesday.
Residents attended to an extent that legislative staff needed to open an overflow room to provide for those gathered, in which the meeting was televised from down the hall.
Southern Nevada senator stands behind bee bill, says it is meant to stop Africanized bees

The bill's original intention was to stop the spread of Africanized Bees in Nevada, he says, which needs to be dealt with on a state level.

Keeping the queen warm, Nevada beekeepers prepare for spring

In the US there are as many as 3,500 species of bees, and according to several estimates, about 1/3 of what we eat relies on bee pollination, but in recent years, bee colonies have been failing at an alarming rate for a variety of reasons. In Nevada there is a robust community of beekeepers.

It is fitting that the state capital should be the first and only (so far) Bee City in Nevada. The city is now the 76th Bee City in the USA.

There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Senator Square: Inaugural 'Week of Respect' a success at Carson High School

Students and staff participated in daily activities promoting positive interactions to support a safe and respectful learning environment. Last year the Obama administration released a “National Strategy to Promote the Health of Honey Bees and Other Pollinators” led by U.S. Department of Agriculture.

They were easy for home gardeners to apply, reducing impacts on non-target organisms. They were effective against a variety of challenging insects including bronze birch borers and aphids.
