Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Female duo busted for petit larceny

Two Carson City women were arrested Friday morning at 10:18 a.m. in the 3000 block of Market Street for misdemeanor petit larceny, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

The women, ages 34 and 37, were taken into custody after being stopped by security for attempting to take items from the business without paying for them.

Staff reported the suspects entered the store around 9:30 a.m., being loud and obnoxious. They had been recognized by staff and were placed under observation.

At self check-out, the suspects were observed scanning some items and not scanning others. Scanned items were placed on top of the unscanned goods, the observing staff reported.

There were stopped at the door by staff, which checked the receipt and requested they return to the check-out to pay for two boxes not accounted for on the receipt, the report said.

Once the suspects were back at check-out, they again were observed not paying for the items concealed underneath the items that had been scanned.

Security finally intervened when the suspects passed all points of payment and they were stopped before exiting the business.

The suspects agreed to accompany security from the front of the business to the security office, where they were kept until Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrived to detain them.

During questioning by security, the suspects became disorderly toward staff, stating "I don't know why the f--- we are here," and "You can go f--- yourself."

Total value of the concealed items not paid for was $128, the report said.

Once deputies arrived and questioned the women, $450 cash was found in one suspect's wallet along with a debit card. That suspect offered to pay for the unpaid for items if law enforcement agreed to let them go.

They were placed in handcuffs at that point. One of the women began to cry and then lurch forward as though we was going to fall. The deputy had a hold of the woman as she sunk to her knees and appeared to pass out, the report said.

The other woman stated she had a heart problem. She began to speak to the woman, saying "Baby wake up, baby wake up."

The deputy un hooked the handcuffs and rolled the suspect on her back, observed her eyes closed but she was breathing normally. Paramedics were dispatched to the location to attend to the suspect, the report said.

The deputy, meanwhile, used her right fist to perform a sternum rub on the suspect, who immediately sat up and grabbed the officer's arms. She was observed to have no difficulty sitting upright and was not out of breath. But she appeared to "pass out" again, closing her eyes and laying her head back, the report said.

The sternum rub maneuver was applied again by the officer, who was asked to stop by suspect after grabbing the deputy's arms again. The deputy requested that the suspect sit up on a bench, and she complied, getting up on her own and breathing normally. The suspect continued to lay her head back several times and close her eyes, stating she needed oxygen and had to go to the hospital.

Paramedics arrived and the suspect checked out normal, except for being slightly out of breath. She was transported to the hospital as a precaution and medically cleared at 12 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The first suspect had already been transported to the Carson City Jail. The second suspect was transported upon medical clearance from the hospital. Bail: $250 each.

Law enforcement had observed the suspect's vehicle, noting its license plate had been expired since April 2017. A traffic stop was initiated at that point, and contact was made with the driver, who exhibited red, watery eyes and alcohol smell on her breath, the report said.

The suspect admitted to drinking two shots before lunch. She consented to field sobriety testing, which showed signs of impairment, and also voluntarily submitted to a preliminary breath test (PBT) that revealed breath-alcohol content (BAC) of .113 percent, the report said.

The suspect was placed in handcuffs at that point and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $1,000.
