Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man jailed after confrontation with officer at casino
A 34-year-old Gardnerville man who refused to leave a casino when asked several times was arrested Monday on felony suspicion of intimidating a police officer and other charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Paul Delbert Simpson was taken into custody, 10:29 p.m. at a casino in the 3800 block of South Carson Street. He was also arrested on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, trespassing and obstructing an officer.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the casino for a report of an intoxicated man who was being belligerent with security and employees. An officer arrived and asked for the man’s identification.
The man began to intimidate the officer by inflating his torso, tightening his arms and making fists with his hands, the arrest report states. The man, described as 6 feet and 300 pounds, began to advance toward the officer, who then drew a taser and told him to stop. At that point, another officer arrived on scene and the suspect provided his identification.
The suspect then continued to be argumentative and belligerent with the officers and was taken into custody. As he was being transported to jail he told the arresting officer that he was going to find him after he got out and assault him, the report states. Bail: $10,896.
In other arrests:
— A 48-year-old Washoe Valley woman was arrested Tuesday, 12:51 a.m. in the area of Goldfield and Saliman streets on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was traveling westbound on East William Street and observed a vehicle swerving in between lanes and appeared to be speeding. The vehicle made a sudden left turn onto Saliman and began going southbound. The vehicle made an improper lane change and was again swerving in between lanes multiple times.
The deputy spoke with the driver who stated she picked up her friend to take her home because she was drinking. The driver had slurred speech and acted lethargic. The officer asked for her identification and she appeared confused. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. The woman said she had a couple drinks hours ago, the arrest report states.
The officer conducted standardized field sobriety tests with unsatisfactory results. She provided a preliminary breath test with a .168 and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. At jail she provided two breath samples, a .144 and .149. Bail: $1,249.
— A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday, 12:25 a.m. in the 3000 block of North Lompa Lane on a misdemeanor warrant, violation of a suspended sentence. According to the arrest report, a deputy was patrolling in the area and observed a vehicle in the parking lot of a church that was closed. The vehicle was occupied by two people, a man and woman. The officer asked why they were in the parking lot of a closed church. The two replied they were there because the female was having a hard day. The officer asked for identification. Dispatch confirmed there was a warrant for the woman’s arrest. Bail: $1,000.
— A 54-year-old Virginia City man was arrested Monday in the 3200 block of Market Street on a misdemeanor parole and probation violation. According to the arrest report, officers were called to Walmart regarding a subject who left the store without paying for merchandise and then returned.
Deputies met with the man and could smell alcohol on his breath. The man said he had consumed two beers earlier in the day, the arrest report states. Dispatch advised he was on probation with a clause not to consume alcohol. The man was arrested on a charge of being in violation of his probation.
— A 26-year-old Fernley man was booked into jail Monday on misdemeanor warrant charges out of Carson City and Douglas County. Bail: $1,700.
— A 50-year-old Minden woman was booked into jail Monday, 10 a.m. on a misdemeanor warrant, violation of a suspended sentence. She was booked and released.
— An 18-year-old Carson City woman was booked into Carson City jail, 10:15 a.m. on a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued Feb. 3, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $295.
