TravelNevada’s Rural Roundup tourism conference set for April 13-15 in Laughlin
Nevada’s rural tourism professionals will gather April 13-15 in Laughlin for the annual Rural Roundup conference, Lt. Gov. and Nevada Commission on Tourism Chairman Mark Hutchison announced Wednesday.
“The Rural Roundup is crucial to the future success of Nevada’s expanding tourism markets,” said Lt. Gov. Hutchison, fresh from his recent trip to India, where he and TravelNevada staff spent four days promoting rural Nevada to Indian travelers. “Through this event, we can take what we learned in marketing Nevada’s diverse communities to international travelers and help those communities to become more successful in promoting and marketing their unique qualities and individuality.”
Trends in tourism marketing, preparing for the international traveler, and creating a dynamic work environment are among the topics to be addressed in this year’s general sessions. Other sessions will cover brand journalism, how to recruit volunteers, and the importance of partnerships, among other issues. New to this conference: the ‘Reelin’ on the River’ Film Festival, which will spotlight the top marketing videos developed by rural destinations.
“Nevada’s rural tourism industry is a dynamic part of the state’s tourism profile,” Claudia Vecchio, director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, said. “We continue to see solid growth in visitation to rural Nevada from both domestic and international travelers. Our rural communities and the many attractions and tourism businesses that operate within them look to the Rural Roundup conference to gain the insights necessary to help them maintain a competitive edge. TravelNevada is proud to present this annual gathering.”
Registration for the Rural Roundup is $65 through April 1, and $100 after. For the full agenda and information about conference speakers, visit RuralRoundup.com. To register, go here.
Also this year, transportation to Laughlin from Carson City via motor coach will be available. The cost is $100 per person, and includes round-trip transportation to and from Rural Roundup; lodging, dinner and breakfast in Beatty; and boxed lunches both ways. The Nevada Division of Tourism is part of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. More commonly knowns as TravelNevada, it is responsible for promoting and marketing Nevada as a travel destination to domestic and international travelers. TravelNevada offers two industry conferences per year, Rural Roundup in the spring and the Governor’s Global Tourism Summit in the fall.
Each is designed to create business development and educational offerings for Nevada’s tourism industry. Operating within a performance-based budget structure, TravelNevada is funded solely by a percentage of lodging tax paid by overnight guests throughout the state.
