The new Nugget Project report is here!

For more than a year, the lack of firm details about the Nugget Project has been a major source of frustration to those trying to get their heads around this undertaking.
Without real numbers or plans, those arguing for or against struggled with hitting the moving target that is this project.
But that target just got a whole lot more stationary, as Carson City Manager Larry Werner released a 100+ page feasibility report (attached below) for the Board of Supervisors to use this week when a decision is made on whether to move forward with the project.
We'll be going over portions of this report in the days to come, because there is a lot to digest.
One big number that jumps out is $1,176,000. That is the estimate of the money that would need to be paid out of the city's general fund every year to pay for this project. This is beyond the $884,000 estimated to be collected from the 1/8th cent sales tax, and the $500,000 in funds from the city's redevelopment agency, for a grand total of $2,560,000 to be paid annually.
For most of the time this project has been banging around, it was said that the cost would be mostly or totally borne by the 1/8th cent sales tax increase and redevelopment money. At one meeting last year, Supervisor Shelly Aldean laid down a line in the sand, saying she would not support any project that went past that.
So, we've gone from little to no money coming from the general fund, to almost half of the cost of the project. It will be interesting to see how this is received by the board on Thursday.
PS: I've already had one person ask if there is a hidden message with the video from The Jerk. Yes, there is. I'm Navin, and excited to finally have the details of this project to analyze. ;-)
Update: The Appeal has a story about the project report, as well as an interview with Nugget President Steve Neighbors. Give them a read.
