Highway 395 from Walker to Bridgeport and State Route 108 over Sonora Pass remain closed Thursday due to the Boot Fire, which remains out of control and burning along the Walker River northwest of Bridgeport in Mono County, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Carson City Fire Department was called Thursday afternoon to the area near Silver Saddle Ranch off of Carson River Road for a reported brush fire.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission will conduct a mandatory nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System this Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 at 11:20 a.m.

UPDATE 3:35PM: The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Warning until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall early Tuesday around Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties has prompted a Flood Warning by the National Weather Service.

UPDATE 4:40PM: Residents of Carson City are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED, a free emergency notification service provided to all residents which will notify you of emergency information through phone calls, text messages, emails, social media and the CodeRED Mobile Alert app.

Due to heavy rains, area flooding, and a State of Emergency the Carson City Library will be closed Monday, Jan. 9.
Carson City is encouraging all residents to stay safe and stay off of Carson City streets until rain showers and flooding as subsided.

Carson City emergency managers have produced a video for residents ahead of anticipated flooding throughout western Nevada expected from an an atmospheric river weather event over the weekend.

UPDATE: 3:51PM: Carson City Public Works is conducting water main testing in the areas of Riverview and Buzzy's Ranch this week. The following is the Code Red Notification that was sent out to residents within these areas:

Carson City will be utilizing the CodeRED Emergency Notification System on Wednesday, November 9th to call the entire community. This exercise is being held in conjunction with the first national wide Emergency Alert System test and encourages citizens of Carson City to establish emergency contact information.

The calls will be in the morning and will continue until the entire database has been attempted. This call will give Carson City emergency personnel the chance to operate the system as if there has been a community wide disaster.

Carson City has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System which is described as an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications.

This system allows Carson City officials to telephone all or targeted areas of the city in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action, such as a boil-water notice, a missing child or evacuation notices.

Carson City School District is looking at a similar notification system.
