Artsy Fartsy holds grand opening to celebrate expansion in downtown Carson City

When Jeffery Pace moved his Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery out of the tiny cottage on West Telegraph Street last month, he selected a space close by for a reason.
"We are expanding, not moving," Pace had said.
Artsy Fartsy celebrated the grand opening of its new art gallery space Thursday evening with an open house reception.
Pace and some of his featured artists were on hand for a meet-and-greet with guests at an A-framed Victorian cottage-style home fronting North Nevada Street in downtown Carson City.
Pace still owns the little storybook-sized cottage located at 220 W. Telegraph Street, even though his gallery relocated only steps away and around the corner to 405 N. Nevada Street, a venue that he said is now large enough to offer more flexibility for his business.
"This is about four times the size of the 415 square-foot space on Telegraph," he said. "The move was prompted by the need to provide more space for the artists and more local art for our community."
Pace said that not only can he now hold events inside his art gallery, but he has room to feature additional work from his current list of more than 65 local artists, as well as that of new artists, too.
"My artists have given me five and a half years in that little tiny space to represent them and to be their voice," he said. "At some point in time, you have to respect them and give them a little bit more space. That's what I'm trying to do is give them a better voice."
As for the little Telegraph Square cottage, Pace said he has big plans for this quaint venue.
"It's going to be a creative center," he said. "A place to hold classes and to learn about art."
A sign has already been erected next to the building's east entrance, identifying it as the Artsy Fartsy Creative Center. Pace said he hopes to give people in the community a hands-on experience with art by offering a space in which to create it.
No definitive opening date has been announced for the creative center, but Pace has indicated it will be in the coming months.
