In the pleasantly warm evening air under the trees this past Wednesday, Maurice White, candidate for Carson City supervisor for Ward 2, held a meet and greet at Glen Eagles Restaurant on North Carson Street, and talked to an attentive and respectful audience of about 35-40 people.



Q&D Construction Leads Major Projects in Carson City

Q&D Construction, a Northern Nevada contractor, will lead construction on the Heroes Memorial Building renovation project in Carson City, the new emergency department and covered connector at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and the Elko County Osino Interchange, and will co-lead the construction of a terminal expansion at Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell, Mont.

UNR students, faculty and staff stand up for sexual assault awareness

Since the February release of results from a student survey regarding sexual conduct and safety, a number of efforts to strengthen a supportive campus climate, one with zero tolerance for sexual assault, sexual misconduct and other life-damaging actions, have been put in place at the University of Nevada, Reno.

In March, the University launched a 24-hour Sexual Assault/Sexual Misconduct Hotline, allowing students, faculty and staff to report incidents that occur on or off campus. The caller may remain anonymous if he/she chooses. The hotline phone number is 775-784-1030.

Carson City Cops and Kids open house lives up to its 'safest party on the street' reputation

With sunny skies, a gentle breeze and plenty of children and their parents, the 10th annual Cops and Kids open house, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday, lived up to its reputation as the safest party on the street.

More than 2,000 attended the four-hour event, which featured games, prizes and demonstrations by Carson City Sheriff's Office patrol officers and personnel. The event is designed for children and their parents to get quality meet-and-greet face time with law enforcement personnel.

56th annual Carson Nugget Thanksgiving feeds hundreds

A first class Carson City Thanksgiving feast with all the fixins' was put on the table Thursday by the Carson Nugget, a tradition and promise it has made to the community for 56 years.

Families by the scores began entering the Carson Nugget convention center at 11 a.m. sharp for the traditional free event, which began three days in advance with food preparation. More than 1,000 guests had been anticipated to show for the annual community gathering.

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays to Hold Candidates Night

The Carson City region's PFLAG chapter (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will again sponsor a Candidate’s Night on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Family Friendship Hall at 1201 North Saliman Road in Carson City. The public is invited to attend.
