Artsy Fartsy expands to around corner on Nevada Street in downtown Carson City
After more than five years in the tiny cottage at 220 West Telegraph Street, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery is now displaying its works in a new and much larger space right around the corner at 405 N. Nevada Street in downtown Carson City.
"This is about four times the size of the 415 square-foot space on Telegraph," said gallery owner Jeffery Pace. "The move was prompted by the need to provide more space for the artists and more local art for our community."
Located in a quaint, but spacious cottage-style Victorian home literally yards away from the storybook-sized Telegraph Square cottage, Artsy Fartsy now has individual several rooms, including a working kitchen, in which to display art from a diverse palette of mediums.
The new space will also allow the gallery to host indoor events like receptions, fundraisers, shows and other gatherings year around, Pace said, instead of outside and only when weather allows.
"Once mother nature put on her winter jacket, there wasn't a whole lot we could do," Pace said of the little cottage on Telegraph. "The food and beverages were outside, and when you get more than 10-15 people inside that space, then you end up with a lot of other people hanging out outside."
Pace said the gallery's relocation is an expansion of the business and not simply a move. He said he wanted to give his featured artists more wall and floor space with which to display and show their works.
"We are expanding, not moving," Pace said.
Artsy Fartsy currently represents more than 65 local artists, he said, and now has room to feature even more.
"My artists have given me five and a half years in that little tiny space to represent them and to be their voice," he said. "At some point in time, you have to respect them and give them a little bit more space. That's what I'm trying to do is give them a better voice."
Pace said he still retains the tidy little space on Telegraph, but he is not disclosing yet any future plans for it.
Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery reopens in its new space on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 10:30 a.m., Pace said. A grand opening party is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 2 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
