CHS hosts annual Reflections Art Contest
Judging for the annual PTA Reflections Art Contest held at Carson High School began Thursday and runs through today.
The nationwide event, sponsored by the national Parent Teacher Association, is now in its 47th year and strives to “support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in your school community,” according to the national PTA web site at www.pta.org.
This year’s contest theme is “Let Your Imagination Fly,” and art submissions have been accepted in six categories: visual arts, photography, music composition, literature, film production, and dance choreography.
There are prizes for first and second places in each category. Winners receive a $50 cash prize, while the runners-up are awarded a $25 cash prize.
Judges are asked to score entries on interpretation, creativity, and technique. These scores are then tallied and the top two entries for each category are selected. The winning local entries are then forwarded to the Nevada State PTA and National PTA contests for a chance to compete for further recognition and scholarships.
The Carson High Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) “encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in the annual Reflections Program,” states the CHS PTSA web page at www.carsonhigh.com. “This program has encouraged millions of students across the nation to explore their writing and artistic talents through this theme-based arts recognition program."
Entries are currently on display in the Carson High School Library.
