Changes to Carson City's charter among many new laws that begin Jan. 1
Changes to Carson City's charter that will give state legislators within the district a say in who the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor appoints to a charter committee, is one of many bills that go into effect Jan. 1, 2014.
The AB312 revision also provides that each member of the city's charter committee serve a term concurrent to the term of the public officer by whom he or she was appointed, or at the pleasure of that public officer. The bill also gives more latitude in how a committee member can be removed.
The bill was authored by Assemblymen Pete Livermore, Pat Hickey and John Hambrick.
Other state laws on the books that begin Jan. 1 include changes to the Department of Motor Vehicles allow veteran status on some DMV documents; the establishment of the Uniform Deployed Parents Custody and Visitation Ac; a new law that prohibits the manufacture, sale or distribution of certain consumer products that contain or come in direct physical contact with Bisphenol A and a new law that adopts requirements for solicitation of charitable contributions by nonprofit corporations and other charitable organizations.
