Sierra Nevada Forums presents discussion on 'Living Sustainably' at Carson City's BAC
Sierra Nevada Forums and Capital City Sustainability Partnership will present a discussion on "Living Sustainably" this Tuesday night at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall.
Aster Girma, President of the Green Institute, believes sustainability promotes quality of life, a healthful living environment, a dynamic economy and an engaged and educated community. Building sustainable community initiatives provide an essential introduction to the complex relationships between the economy, society and the environment.
The economy exists and functions within community — with a healthy, productive society, and together they exist and function within a finite environment — efficiently harnessed natural resources and healthy environment and are totally dependent on it.
Effective sustainability initiatives foster community involvement, encourage citizen and government partnerships, educate the public about ongoing efforts, and provide a communication mechanism for members of the community to have their voices heard.
This forum is a step toward sustainability. Featured speakers will present Urban Agriculture, Waste Management and Recycling, and Model Energy Efficiency programs from across the country.
Moderated by Girma and Carson City Manager Nick Marano, panelists are Tom Polikalis, regional representative for Southwest Energy Efficiency, Jeanne Lear, Human Resource Manager for South Lake Tahoe Refuse, Craig Frezette, owner/operator of City Green Gardens.
The forum is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. to view exhibits. The event is at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 West King Street, Carson City. Go here for the Sierra Nevada Forums Facebook page and here for its webpage.
