A Walk Down the Fall Art Walk Lane
At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning a group of well bundled people met in downtown Carson City for the Fall Art Walk. If you missed the walk or forgot to take notes, here is a brief recap.
1) Comma Coffee – The “Backseat Gallery” in the back was featuring art by Barry Mitchell. It was a great opportunity to get a hot coffee too.
2) Legislative Grounds – A viewing of the statues of Kit Carson and Abraham Curry and the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along the beautiful ground of the Nevada State Legislature.
3) Nevada Library State Archives – Featuring historical artifacts and photographs from Carson City’s history. Of note, October is Archives Month and on October 31st, Nevada Day, the 1863 Nevada Constitution will be on display for one day only.
4) Carson City Court House – The second floor art gallery is sponsored by the Capital City Arts Initiative. The one of a kind images by Ben Hoffman are computer generated, mathematical formulated and printed out on canvas. These large pieces look so life-like we spent extra time here admiring the beautiful pieces.
5) Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) – Another Capital City Arts Initiative display features eight local artists artwork. A very creative and diverse showcase.
6) Department of Cultural Affairs/NV Arts Council – This little known gallery is in their office at Washington and Curry and is now featuring a digital media display plus other pieces that amazed us all.
7) Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery – Featuring all local artists this unique gallery has something for everyone including one of a kind jewelry, scarves, pottery, and art. To keep us going, we got a trick or treat bowl of candy to indulge on.
8) Great Basin Art Gallery – A local favorite for 28 years, this beautiful gallery also offers custom framing.
9) Brewery Arts Center/NV Artists Association – In its current location since 1978, the gallery’s current display is filled of beautiful art, from oil to photographs. A current people’s choice award is going on for visitors to choose their favorite pieces.
10) Brewery Arts Center/Artisan Store – Local artists showcasing their talents rotate shifts working at the store and offer an artist’s perspective to the displays.
Our tour ended at Foodies Bystro (inside the Brewery Arts Center adjacent to the Artisan Store) where we all dined on exquisite vegan and non-vegan food options. A fan favorite was the shrimp curry with rice and the Panini sandwiches. The dining area is filled with more stunning and unique art pieces. It was a perfect end to a beautiful day.
Our walk was led by Donna Inversin, President of Muscle Powered. Donna also leads the Easy Walks on Tuesday mornings and is on the Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee. More events can be found at musclepowered.org and Donna can be emailed at donnanv1@gmail.com.
