Railroad Photographer Exhibition coming to Carson City
In the tradition of Winterail, Silver Rail 2015 is an informal gathering of railroad photographers, artists, writers, historians and preservationists. The event will be Oct. 3 at the Brewery Arts Center and will feature a full day of multimedia presentations of documentary and creative railroad photography and fellowship.
2015 presenters include Wayne Monger, author and former Union Pacific news editor for CTC Board Magazine. Wayne is also widely involved in railroad preservation work on both the Western Pacific and Milwaukee Road Railroads.
Author Jeff Moore will debut images from his forthcoming new book on the McCloud River Railroad, to be published by Signature Press this fall. Richard and Wanda Canton, authors of Railroad in the Sky, will update us on the continuing efforts to preserve the Bodie Railway & Lumber Company.
Other presenters will include Evan Werkema, Matt Vurek (last days of SN electric operations), Neil Carlson (upper midwest steam operations) and John Walker (1985 western railfan tour). Professor Bruce Blackadar of UNR will take us back ten years ago to the beginning of construction on the Reno (train) Trench. Todd Moore will give us an update on the construction of the replica V&T Lyon locomotive and there will be some short film clips from retired WP/UP engineer and founder of the Portola Railroad Museum Norman Holmes. We will also be featuring some “Winterail Redux’s” - some great Winterail programs from the past: John Maky’s SP Mina Branch, The WP’s Final Decade, and Mel Patrick’s incredible tribute to Chicago Union Station.
The Brewery Arts Center (BAC) Performance Hall is air conditioned and has tiered, cushioned seating. Located in a nice, quiet, safe neighborhood, with plenty of parking; food and drinks will be available for sale on the property. In addition, Rule G will not be in effect at this event as the BAC will host a bar for those interested.
Make it a railroad weekend and enjoy the fall colors of Nevada and explore Virginia City and ride the historic V&T Railway or visit the Nevada State Railroad Museum on Sunday.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 West King Street, Carson City. Tickets are available through the Brewery Arts Center web site at www.breweryarts.org.
($2.00 service charge – tickets will be left at “Will Call”) at the BAC Artisan Store at 449 West King Street, by calling the BAC office at 775-883-1976 or may be purchased at the door on the day of the event.
Ticket prices are $15.00 per person, $14.00 for Brewery Arts Center and Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum members.
