Author Guy Clifton Presents Jack Dempsey's Days in Nevada
Author Guy Clifton will speak on his book Dempsey in Nevada in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 6, at 10 a.m.
Many people are surprised to learn that Jack Dempsey once called Nevada home. Dempsey left footprints all over the Silver State that affected the entire sporting arena.
He helped usher in the era known as “The Golden Age of Sport” along with baseball’s Babe Ruth, football’s Red Grange, golf’s Bobby Jones and tennis’ Bill Tilden.
His rags to riches story is played out against the background of the Silver State’s early 20th century exemplifying the American spirit of man and place.
Alpen Sierra Coffee Company is providing complimentary coffee and 88 Cups & More is providing baked treats for visitors throughout the series.
Guy Clifton is a longtime Nevada journalist, having spent 30 years in the newspaper business covering uniquely Nevada stories. Clifton spent 22 years with the Reno Gazette-Journal and is a former editor of the Gardnerville Record-Courier and Tahoe World, and a former news and sports editor of the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza.
He is the author of seven books including You Know You’re A Nevadan, if…, Reno Rodeo: A History, Johnson-Jeffries: Dateline Reno, and Dempsey in Nevada. Clifton lives in Reno and is currently the Events and Public Relations Manager for Sundance Books and Music.
The park is located at 1450 Hwy 88m ¼ mile north of the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital. This is an outdoor event, and visitors should bring their own seating. Dogs are not permitted at this event. For more information, visit dangberghomeranch.org.

Rupert with a presentation on Preserving the Stewart Indian School on September 24. The park’s full 2016 event schedule is available at the park’s website.
