Nearly 100 Literary Luminaries to participate in Saturday's Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl

On Saturday, Sept. 14 Nevada Humanities will hold its sixth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl in Reno celebrating this year’s theme “Unabridged.”

The Literary Crawl is the premier literary event in northern Nevada that will feature an exploratory day of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry readings, as well as panel discussions, book signings, and workshops.

RENO, Nev. – “Unabridged,” the sixth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl, will take place Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Reno, featuring an exploratory day of over 40 fiction, non-fiction, and poetry readings, as well as panel discussions, book signings, and workshops.

Nevada Humanities Presents “Great Basin Young Chautauqua Showcase” on May 31 and June 1

Nevada Humanities celebrates the 27th season of Great Basin Young Chautauqua with the Great Basin Young Chautauqua Showcase. Performances by Great Basin Young Chautauquans will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 and Saturday, June 1, 2019, starting at 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Restless Artists Theatre, located at 295 20th Street in Sparks. Seasoned Chautauqua performer Doug Mishler will serve as the evenings’ master of ceremonies and will share recollections of the Young Chautauqua and Chautauqua experience throughout the program.

Nevada Humanities will welcome author Julie Buntin at a series of events throughout Northern Nevada during the month of May. Ms. Buntin is the author of Marlena: A Novel, the 2018 pick for Nevada Reads — a statewide, public book club. Nevada Reads invites Nevadans to read selected works of literature and to come together in their communities to share the ideas and perceptions inspired by the book club selections.

Gardnerville freelance writer and former Nevada Press Association Journalist of Merit Scott Neuffer will be hosting two public signings for his first full-length book, a collection of short fictional stories entitled “Scars of the New Order.”

Neuffer will be signing books 6:30-8 p.m. June 4 at Sundance Books and Music at 121 California Ave. in Reno. He’ll also be hosting a book reading and signing 6 p.m. June 6 at Shelby’s Book Shoppe at 1663 Lucerne St. Suite C in the Minden Village.

UNR history professor emeritus Davies pens book on history of boxing in Nevada

University of Nevada, Reno distinguished History Professor Emeritus Richard O. “Dick” Davies offers a blow-by-blow account of boxing in the Silver State in his new book titled “The Main Event: Boxing in Nevada from the Mining Camps to the Las Vegas Strip.” The book is now available for purchase.

Davies was inspired to write his book after speaking with Matt Becker, senior acquisitions editor for the University of Nevada Press. He spent a few years researching Nevada’s history and culture of boxing and composed “The Main Event,” his newest chronicle of sports history.
