Sundaes on Sunday at the Library
Who knew the origins of a “sundae” could be disputed? Was the ice cream treat invented in New York, Illinois, or somewhere else? All lay claim to serving the first ice cream scoop topped with something sweet. Another tidbit about how sundaes came to be called a sundae is for the reason that in the 1880’s local laws prohibited the consumption of ice cream sodas as being too indulgent for Sundays. So, a young soda fountain clerk dished up a scoop of ice cream and topped it with chocolate syrup. This tasty delight, a sundae, was only allowed to be served on Sundays. And this Sunday, July 26th, Carson City Library patrons can indulge in the syrupy, sweet treat of an ice cream sundae dished-up in the Library Secret Garden between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
In addition to the ice cream delight, a special performance by Celtic finger-style guitarist Jerry Barlow will take place in the Digitorium beginning at 3:00 PM.
