Get Ready For School: Free gently used clothing available for families
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its eighth annual clothing drive to lend a hand to families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school.
The event is open to the public on Saturday, August 13, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City.
David Haws, President of the church’s local organization, asked for families of Carson City and surrounding communities to come in and pick up gently used clothing. “For eight years in a row, the Church has sponsored this annual event for families of school-aged children. Our goal is to reduce the stress parents’ face in getting their children ready for the coming school year,” said Haws.
Event organizers ask for community members’ help by contributing new or gently used clean clothing donations. Drop off clothing on Friday, August 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, Nevada.
Linda Forbes, President of the Church’s local women’s organization, said the annual event provides gently used clothing free of charge, to all community members; however the event focuses on school-aged children. “We invite families to pick up free clothing for all age groups to prepare for school,” said Forbes.
Providing service to others is central to the Mormon belief of following the example of Jesus Christ. This is a non-denominational event open to the public.
