The Downtown Sands Farmers Market in in Full Bloom This Summer, June 9-August 25
Shirley’s Farmers Markets and the Sands Regency are back in 2016 as hosts for the Downtown Farmers Market at the Sands. Every Thursday from June 9 to August 25 between 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., local farms and other vendors will converge under the large tent in the Sands parking lot located south of 3rd Street in Reno.
The Farmers Markets is the place to be on Thursday nights for shopping and a fun night out. It will feature free, live classic rock concerts, food trucks, family-friendly fun, a beer garden with local craft beers, and weekly summer games by Sam Adams, where you can win free beer for a year. Bands perform for free from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The 10,000 square foot market will be under a covered tent, so visitors will be shaded from the summer heat and able to shop in comfort.
The weekly summer games from Sam Adams will highlight a different activity each week, where one can compete for free beer for a year. The schedule includes: Cornhole, Basketball, Jenga, Connect Four on a rotating basis from weeks 1 through 12.
“There is a lot of synergy and excitement surrounding downtown Reno,” said Pete McHugh, assistant general manager of the Sands. “We want our downtown residents and the surrounding community to enjoy this great summer-long event in an inviting, fun and vibrant place.”
In addition, High Sierra Chefs Association, Inc. will be conducting cooking demonstrations on June 9th, June 30th, July 28th and August 25th. Market shoppers will also find a variety of seasonal, farm fresh fruits and vegetables from certified farms.
“Our farmers bring produce from certified farms,” said Shirley Sponsler, owner of Shirley’s Farmers Markets. “This means they actually grow what they bring.”
“The location will offer covered shopping for our many vendors, plenty of free parking, great food and beverages, weekly entertainment and lots of fun surprises over the season,” said Sponsler. “Under the tent our produce, specialty foods, arts and crafts, music and activities will offer an experience unlike any other market.”
