Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training to graduate 28 from academy

Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, also known as POST, is pleased to announce 28 graduates, from 18 Nevada agencies, will accept their peace officers’ oath as POST Academy Class 2018-01.

The graduation ceremony highlights Sheriff Ron Pierini, Douglas County Sheriff & POST Commission Chairman, as the keynote speaker along with POST Executive Director, Michael Sherlock. Sheriff Pierini will administer the peace officers’ oath for all 28 graduates.

The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 16, at 10 a.m. on the front lawn of POST Building 6, at the Stewart Facility; which is located at 5587 Wa Pai Shone Avenue, in Carson City.

The Category I POST Academy is 652 hours of intensive peace officer training over 17 weeks. The Category II POST Academy is 380 hours over 10 weeks in duration and is contained within the 17-week Category I academy. The following 28 graduates accepting the oath are:

The Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training is the regulatory agency for law enforcement training throughout the state and is responsible for the certification of the nearly 10,000 peace officers serving in over 130 criminal justice agencies in the state. NAC 289.010 thru NAC 289.380 and NRS 289.010 thru NRS 289.820 govern POST.

Area residents dropped of prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines and syringes Saturday during the Fall Prescription Drug Roundup held at participating locations around Carson City.

Two brush fires were reported Thursday afternoon in the Dayton area of Lyon County, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. Units responding to one of the fires have since been canceled.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City hosts its second Harvest Train weekend this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21-22, with steam train rides, a pumpkin patch, craft fair and food trucks.

Carson City Fire Department was called late Thursday morning to a brush fire reported in the area of South Carson Street and Highway 50 West near the Spooner junction. Firefighters were able to knock down the flames before it began to spread.
