Carson City to repair flood damaged trails
The extensive flooding Carson City experienced last January has caused a lot of damage to trails throughout the city. Because of this, city staff has been working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on repairing and mitigating damage to the City’s trail system.
Consequently, some of the trails will be temporarily closed in the coming weeks to ensure everyone’s safety, and ensure the repairs run smoothly. Trail sections closed will be marked accordingly and be closed during construction.
The following trails are scheduled for construction:
— Moffat Open Space: Route 6 pathway between Hells Bells Road and Lepire Drive. Asphalt trail is scheduled for repair starting on Oct. 30. Construction is anticipated to be approximately 3-4 weeks.
— Riverview Park: Western section of the trail system. Reconstruction of the dirt trails were scheduled as of Oct. 18 and construction is anticipated to be approximately 4 weeks.
— Long Ranch Park: Paved trail section on the northwest side of the park. Asphalt trail repairs are scheduled to start at the end of October and construction is anticipated to be approximately 4 weeks.
Contractors chosen for these projects were selected through a competitive process compliant with FEMA guidelines. 75 percent of the project costs are eligible to be reimbursed by FEMA, with 25 percent of the costs the responsibility of the City.
