Nevada Rural Housing Authority wins two national excellence awards
The Nevada Rural Housing Authority was recognized last Thursday by the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies during its 2016 Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas.
NRHA received excellence awards in two categories: the Single-Family Excellence category in recognition of the Home at Last Program, and the Multifamily Excellence category in recognition of the Winnemucca Senior Campus project.
“We are proud to have NRHA as a member and to present the agency with not only one, but two awards, which is no small feat,” Ron Williams, NALHFA president and executive director of the Southeast Texas Housing Financing Corporation, said. “This recognition is significant, and establishes NRHA as not only a driving force in Nevada housing, but also on a national scale.”
“Our goal is to recognize those organizations that have provided an extraordinary benefit to the community,” Jason Boehlert, NALHFA executive director, said. “NRHA is a wonderful example of an agency that maintains a hyper focus on innovation, affordability and, ultimately, the people it helps each and every day.”
The Home at Last program is renowned as a national leader, implementing innovative access to credit solutions that allow low- to moderate-income families to experience homeownership, often for the first time. In 2015, Home at Last expanded the Down Payment Assistance (DPA) grant program and revamped the Mortgage Tax Credit (MTC) program. The redesigned programs, with customizable grant options up to five percent of the loan amount, reduced or eliminated fees, and multiple user-friendly enhancements, became more financially appealing and simpler for homebuyers, lenders and Realtors, and generated a significant spike in homeownership in Nevada.
The Winnemucca Senior Campus project began in 2010 with the goal to alleviate a housing shortage that has existed in the city of Winnemucca, Nev. for many years. The Senior Campus has been a dream come true for senior couples and individuals looking for relief from appreciated housing costs, giving them the chance to live on a campus that takes care of many of their daily living needs.
“NRHA has one focus,” Gary Longaker, NRHA executive director said, “and that is people. The people behind the results NRHA produces are why we’ve been recognized by a prestigious organization such as NALHFA. We have the best and the brightest, and the thousands of families we help each year are able to achieve their housing dreams because of this team’s unwavering efforts.”
