Two Reno men to be recognized with the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award
David Bobzien Jr., and James Ferrigan III, both of Reno, have been selected to receive the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. The NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award is a distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. It is awarded to an Eagle Scout by the National Eagle Scout Association for distinguished service to their profession and community upon the recommendation of his local Boy Scout Council.
"An Eagle Scout's contributions to their community extend far beyond their time as a young person and we are proud to be able to honor these two Eagle Scouts with this national recognition for their contributions to Northern Nevada" said Nevada Area Council Scout Executive Paul Penttila.
David Bobzien's distinguished service to his profession and community includes service as in the Nevada State Assembly, the Reno City Council, and as former Governor Sisolak's Director of the Governor's Office of Energy. Bobzien earned his Eagle Scout rank in the Washington, DC Area.
James Ferrigan's contributions as a prominent vexillologist and historian who was instrumental in the 1991
of the Nevada State Flag re-design, a conferee to the 1996 national conference on the restoration of the
Star-Spangled Banner at the Smithsonian institute, and produced educational materials related to the California Bear Flag Revolt Sesquicentennial. Ferrigan earned his Eagle Scout rank in Pennsylvania.
Both men will be presented their awards at the 2024 Nevada Area Council Annual Recognition Banquet which will include honoring the region's newest Eagle Scouts, the Eagle class of 2023.
