On Friday night I walked outside to let the dog out and when I looked up I was greeted by a great horned owl (Bubo virginianus). It was very curious and seemed to have no fear at all. It decided to hang out in the trees nearby for a while. Then on Sunday I went for a bike ride and saw another one, possibly the same one, only a couple blocks away.

A Carson City jail inmate who was at Carson Tahoe Hospital for a medical furlough was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony escape by a prisoner and conspiracy to escape custody, a gross misdemeanor offense, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The fire danger level across the forest has been reduced due to recent moisture and predicted cooler temperatures. Effective 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Austin-Tonopah, Bridgeport, Carson, Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge, and Santa Rosa Ranger Districts, and the Spring Mountain National Recreation area is no longer in fire restrictions.

Nevada State Police Highway Patrol division is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Sunday morning that closed a portion of I-580 in north Carson City near the county line.

Here is the Carson City road report for the week of Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, 2022. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

INCLINE VILLAGE — Drivers can expect multiple work zones this week as paving continues on SR-431, SR-28 in the Marlette Creek area receives slurry seal, and a portion of SR-28 north of Sand Harbor gets repaved. Drivers can expect up to 30-minute delays. Traffic control supervisors will be monitoring traffic flow and delay times.
All work is weather and temperature permitting, and subject to change.
