The Nevada Department of Wildlife named Jennifer Newmark as Wildlife Diversity Division Administrator. The position oversees the division responsible for Nevada’s diverse wildlife heritage through the protection, management and restoration of non-game species.

Newmark has almost 16 years of experience in increasingly responsible roles working with Nevada’s wildlife. In her most recent position, Jennifer served as the Administrator of the Nevada Natural Heritage Program, an independent state agency within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Beginning on Monday, March 30, Heavenly Mountain Resort at south shore Lake Tahoe will offer mountain access via the Heavenly Gondola in the Heavenly Village for the remainder of the season and Stagecoach Express through Sunday, April 5.

All mountain operations on the California side will close March 30, a week ahead of schedule. The resort will operate 11 lifts, accessing 27 trails. Mountain Operations staff continue to closely monitor and assess conditions daily. At this time the resort is still planning on closing on April 19.

Three Dayton women were arrested Sunday on felony drug charges after a search warrant was issued to search a home on Shady Grove, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office. Among the drugs found was approximately 302 grams or 3/4-pound of cocaine, nearly 2 pounds of marijuana as well as packing material to sell and distribute the drugs.

UPDATE 1:32PM: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At 12:09 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Fire/Paramedics responded to the corner of Dori Way and Ester Circle to a reported juvenile pedestrian hit by a vehicle. Once on scene, officers determined that the juvenile was an 11-year-old Hispanic male and the driver of the vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, had left the scene.

Over the past year, the Board of Supervisors, management, and staff of Carson City have developed a draft strategic plan to help guide future investments and priorities.

The Greater Nevada Credit Union branch at CHS recently sponsored a Mural Contest open to all Carson High Students. All entries were judged and the 1st place winner was Athena Favero, who received a $200 Amazon Gift Card. Second place and a $100 Amazon Gift Card went to Michael Rose. As part of the contest, Athena painted her winning design "A Senator’s Road To Success” on the hallway wall outside the GNCU branch at CHS. Students and staff are encouraged to come by and see her winning mural at Carson High School. Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all the students who entered.
