The Nevada Humane Society, a nonprofit animal shelter working to save animal lives in northern Nevada, will launch its Pick of the Pack fundraising raffle on Saturday, August 10 at Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota, an opportunity for the community to purchase tickets for a raffle running through Nov. 2 wherein they can win either a brand new car or $15,000 in cash while supporting homeless pets in northern Nevada.

Overnight lane closures will take place on I-580 in Washoe Valley. Also, Slide Mountain Road will be closed as the Nevada Department of Transportation enhances roadside barrier rail and guardrail.

The celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Chautauqua at Dangberg Historic Park continues by celebrating Wednesday night Chautauquas with the theme: "Follow Us on an Adventure!" All Wednesday evening Chautauquans have an adventurous tale to share with their audience.

On Saturday, August 17, from 10:00-11:00 am, Donna Inversin will speak on “The Historic Virginia and Truckee Trail: From Old Railroad to Future Rail Trail.”

Donna Inversin will give a presentation on the nonprofit’s effort to find the remaining sections of old rail bed routes to bring them together in order to build a multi-use path of between sixty and eighty miles, which will echo the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. The trail is being designed for the benefit and enjoyment of the citizens and visitors of Northern Nevada.

Tami Force will speak on Nevada Ghost Towns at Dangberg Home Historic Ranch on Saturday, August 10, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Tami Force has been exploring ghost towns, mining camps, and back roads for 30 years. Force loves learning about some of the more unusual ghost towns and locations in Nevada and beyond. Her goal has been to photograph, document and share the history of these places with others.

On Friday, August 16, from 10 to 11 a.m., Ross Mortensen will portray Jack Davis, honest Comstock miner turned stagecoach and train robber.

Jack Davis was a personable and educated miner who barely made a living in California's Tuolumne diggings. By 1859 Davis found himself in Virginia City, Nevada where he purchased and worked a stamp mill. Soon he found it was easier to make money at his secret business of robbing stagecoaches and trains.
