John C. Frémont discovers Dangberg Historic Park this Wednesday
The celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Chautauqua at Dangberg Historic Park continues by celebrating Wednesday night Chautauquas with the theme: "Follow Us on an Adventure!" All Wednesday evening Chautauquans have an adventurous tale to share with their audience.
On Wednesday, August 7, from 6:30-7:30 pm, Steve Hale will portray Major General John C. Frémont - pathfinder, and discoverer of Lake Tahoe.
John C. Frémont played a role in nearly every pivotal American political and military event of the mid-19th Century. Fremont was a pioneering Western explorer, millionaire gold baron, premature emancipator, Major General of Union forces in the Civil War, California Senator, Governor of the Arizona Territory, and the United States’ first Republican Presidential candidate.
Frémont’s famous survey maps and journals, detailing his five pioneering Western expeditions into the vast unknown western Wilderness, mapped the paths over which thousands of immigrants, and later the Gold Rush 49’ers, labored westward seeking new lives and opportunity.
Steve Hale of Comstock Characters has been presenting reenactments of pivotal historical characters to audiences for over two decades in the Lake Tahoe region and West coast. Hale has performed at National Parks including a residency at Yosemite National Park’s Valley Theater, State Parks, and various other Chautauqua venues.
Hale is a Certified Interpretive Guide, having received awards for Conservation Educator of the Year, and for Excellence in Interpretation and Conservation.
Wednesday evening Chautauqua ticket prices are $15 for 17 years and older. Youth 16 years and younger are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased at the event. Gate opens at 5:30 pm.
Friday, August 9, Chautauqua of Agnes Train Janssen has been cancelled.
