The Nevada National Guard will host its 24th annual Flag Day and 247th U.S. Army Birthday with a ceremony this Tuesday, June 14, 10 a.m. at the Nevada Veterans Memorial on the state capitol grounds, 101 N. Carson St. in Carson City.

Recently, I was reading my Horticulture and Crop Science magazine from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and was fascinated by an article on living walls with gardens of plants growing vertically. Alumnus David Brenner has been creating beautiful living walls with his company Habitat Horticulture since 2010.

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested for suspicion of felony violation of probation after being caught with a smart phone, which he was barred from having as terms of his probation, after calling deputies on report of an unconscious individual.

Leo’s beloved family tearfully announces the passing of their irreplaceable husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was known by those who loved him most as Papa. He peacefully fell asleep camping at Lake Lahontan and woke up in Heaven. He will be deeply missed.

A two vehicle crash with injuries was reported just after 6 p.m. Friday evening at Carson St. and Fleischmann.

First responders are en route to the scene.

The Nevada Division of Museums and History is pleased to announce that Josh Bonde, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as director of the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

Several asphalt pathways throughout Carson City will be temporarily closed to complete maintenance June 20-24.

Maintenance activities will include crack sealing and slurry seal. Large construction equipment will be working on-site. Striping of the pathways will be completed June 27-28.

Earlier this year, the Fritsch Elementary School Archery Team placed 2nd in the Nevada State Archery Competition for the 2021-2022 season after earning high marks for an elementary school. Last year, the team brought the State Title, trophy and honor home to Carson City for the first time in program history.

— A 26-year-old Dayton man was arrested for conspiracy to commit motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, DUI first, and obstruction.

According to the report, Austin Matthew Bradley was arrested after deputies were dispatched on a report of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred at a South Carson St. motel.

Multiple power outages have been reported in the Dayton area, the causes of which are currently under investigation according to NV Energy.

Nearly 700 residents across 6 outage points are reportedly in the dark. Restoration of power is estimated to be between 12:45 and 1:15 p.m. Friday afternoon.

United Way leads school readiness fun for preschoolers and parents on June 21

Silver City, Nevada - United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) will host a morning of fun and educational activities for preschoolers and their parents on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 10am to noon.

This Saturday comes with benefits in the Silver State as residents and visitors are invited to “Discover Nevada State Parks." Visitors will receive free day-use admission.

Also happening is Nevada Department of Wildlife's free day of fishing. This event allows anglers of all ages to fish without a license on any of Nevada's waterways.

Participants will walk 1 1/4 miles to Frog Lake over a fairly level trail, where the instruction will take place. Rita and ENFIA will provide the supplies and materials but participants must carry them to the site.

Sunday, June 5 marked a day full of activities, drawing community together in support of the 35th annual National Cancer Survivors Day, recognized the first Sunday of each June.

Keeping our community safe is a full time job for the dedicated team at Carson City Sheriff’s Office. Although many think law enforcement is funded by speeding tickets or other traffic infractions, that is actually a very common misconception. A large majority of the revenue brought in from fines redirects back into the city, including road repairs and education.

Those with digital over-the-air channels associated with KOLO Channel 8 have begun to see some service restored following outages that happened over the weekend. KOLO noted on its website that its 8.1 signal has been restored and it is working on restoring its remaining digital channels.

During the past two years, many of the 12,000 children and adolescents living in Carson City have simply been spending their vacations at home due to the pandemic and the associated insecurities of school or daycare closures.

This year, however, many families hoping to return to “normal” with summer camps and youth programming found many programs have been capped or even canceled due to a lack of staffing.

Today, Wednesday, Carson's Bee City invites members of the public and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce to a “What’s the Buzz Carson City” event at Foothill Garden from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The garden trail is located at 1535 Medical Parkway behind the Cancer Center.
