Carson City's Proscenium Players Inc. is looking for new members; annual meeting held Saturday

The Proscenium Players Inc. is hoping to add a few more members to its cast. If you’ve ever had an interest in acting, directing or staging this is a great opportunity to explore your options.
PPI is holding its annual meeting and celebration on Sunday, June 12, at 2pm in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom and anyone interested in joining is invited.
“We would love to have anyone and everyone join our group,” said Michon Chandler. “There are so many different jobs and positions that go into making a successful show. We welcome anyone who is interested in theater, who wants to act or sing, work behind the scenes, help with construction of sets or just help where needed.”
Formed in 1965 by Maize Harris-Jesse and Jim Johns, PPI is the longest running theater group in Carson City. Since its inception the troop has performed more than 160 plays, several murder mysteries and numerous theatrical workshops.
Chandler says the members are diverse in religion, politics and backgrounds. “PPI is made up of people from all walks of life, which is awesome. However, what we all have in common is the love of the arts and support of each other. Theater can bring us closer, even in times of division, like we are experiencing now.”
PPI’s first production was staged at Carson City’s Civic Auditorium, which is now the Children’s Museum. The group now stages three performances a year at the Brewery Arts Center. As the group nears its 60th anniversary, Chandler credits local residents with its longevity. “We have a long history of embracing the arts in this area, and live theater in particular. I think people really appreciate the deeper connection you get with the live performers. You can feel the tension and the joy on a heightened level, with a fulfillment you may not get through recorded work.”
The upcoming meeting and social event will begin with a review of the past year, goals for next year and the election of new officers. A social gathering will follow with plenty of opportunities for those interested in joining the group to meet current members and ask questions.
“I’ve been with PPI since 1992, 30 years!” Chandler enthused. “It’s been a wonderful experience for me, the friendships and bonds I have made mean the world to me. I think new members will find it a wonderful experience as well.”
