Dayton man arrested for stealing girlfriend-of-one-month's car, phone due to suspicions of cheating

— A 26-year-old Dayton man was arrested for conspiracy to commit motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, DUI first, and obstruction.

According to the report, Austin Matthew Bradley was arrested after deputies were dispatched on a report of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred at a South Carson St. motel.

The victim stated that Bradley, her ex-boyfriend, had stolen her vehicle, and stated that it was most likely on its way to Dayton and being followed by one of Bradley’s friends in an additional vehicle.

Deputies located the vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 50 E. at a high rate of speed, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle continued into Lyon County and onto a dirt road off of Kit Kat Drive.

They located the additional vehicle the victim had identified and contacted the driver and sole occupant, later identified as Bradley, and a “use of force occurred.” The report did not elaborate what the use of force consisted of.

Bradley told deputies he was in an argument with his girlfriend, who he stated he’d been in a relationship with for one month, who he suspected of cheating on him. He said he received “odd messages” from her earlier that day, so he located her using a “shared location application,” leading him to the motel.

With a friend, he drove to the motel and located her vehicle. He saw a man leaving the motel who he recognized, and confronted him. The man said he was the victim’s long-term boyfriend. Bradley “stated he acknowledged their partnership, shaking his hand and left the scene with his friend.”

Bradley told deputies he dropped his friend off at a nearby apartment complex and continued to drive to his Dayton residence.

During this conversation, deputies stated they could smell an alcoholic odor emitting from his person. He told deputies he had consumed two beers earlier in the evening. He provided a preliminary breath test level of .208 percent BAC.

Bradley also had a bump and minor abrasion developing on his forehead, and a sergeant stated he would be arrested for obstruction since he resisted arrest. Later, the fire department assessed his injuries and medically cleared him to be taken into custody.

However, Bradley was located in his own vehicle, not the stolen vehicle. The owner of the vehicle stated that she was certain Bradley and his friend had stolen her vehicle together. Bradley denied involvement in taking her vehicle, or knowing who stole it, even though he had continued following the suspected stolen vehicle onto the dirt road off of Kit Kat Drive, ultimately leading to his confrontation with deputies, according to the report.

Inside Bradley’s vehicle, deputies located the victim’s phone, which he said he took “since he was the one who paid for it.”

It is not apparent from the police report that the suspect driving the stolen vehicle was located or taken into custody. Deputies took Bradley’s phone as evidence as it “may show communication between him and the suspected driver of the stolen vehicle.”

Bail: $11,549

— A 33-year-old transient man was arrested on a contempt of court warrant.

According to the arrest report, deputies were searching for a subject who had left the scene of an overdose. While searching for the other subject, deputies saw a man standing in the road, who was “sweating heavily.”

Deputies asked his name and dispatch advised he had a warrant out for his arrest for contempt of court. Deputies took him into custody on the warrant.

Bail: $3,000 cash only
