CARSON CITY — Carson Tahoe Health, in partnership with several area health organizations, including Carson City Health and Human Services, Lyon County Human Services and more, is inviting the public to take an online survey to determine the most pressing health-related needs from the perspective of community members. The survey requests input from the public about the availability of opportunities to be physically, mentally, socially, and economically healthy.

As the new school year quickly approaches, Greater Nevada Credit Union has launched the Greater School Supplies Drive to support Nevada students, teachers and schools by gathering the supplies needed for a successful academic year.

Many students lack the necessary supplies to succeed in the classroom, and teachers often use personal funds to purchase them. The average K-12 teacher spends an average of $750 of their own money to supplement their classroom’s supplies, without reimbursement.

During the family movie night at Mills Park on Friday, the audience experienced jazz music and the animated Pixar movie Soul, whose main character Joe Gardner is a school jazz instructor. The movie tells a story about Joe's passion for jazz and how music can carry life to one's soul.

A traffic crash was reported just after 12 p.m. Saturday at Bigelow and Ricetrack drive.

First responders are enroute to the scene.

A 49-year-old transient man was arrested at a local bowling alley after allegedly “freaking out” other bowlers.

If you are looking for a new best friend that will love you forever, come by Catmandu to meet Piglet. Just like Winnie the Poo’s side kick, Piglet will follow you and be your constant shadow. Piglet was one of four cats that belonged to a senior lady before she passed away.

At 7:41 p.m., a rollover crash with ejection was reported in front of the Maverick Gas Station on Highway 50 E. and College.

The individual who was ejected from the vehicle is reported to be "highly intoxicated" according to the 911 caller.

Just before 6 p.m. Friday night a crash was reported in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road.

Two vehicles are involved and at this time it does not appear that there are injuries.

Deputies are enroute to the scene.

Motorists should seek alternate routes or use caution while in the area.

Sierra Junior Tennis Association is pleased to announce that 32 junior tennis players will compete in the first Sierra Junior Tennis Association (SJTA) tournament hosted at Carson High School today, Saturday, July 30.

The tournament is a fundraiser for Carson High School’s Boys and Girls Tennis Teams whose season starts in August.

Agriculture producers and others are invited to tour field plots in northern Nevada where the University of Nevada, Reno and its partners are researching drought-tolerant and high-demand crops. Three free field tours will be hosted, two in Fallon on Aug. 5 and 9, and one in Reno on Aug. 12.

The Carson Chamber Singers, a performing group of the Carson City Symphony Association, will kick off their 38th season on Tuesday, August 2, from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. at the LDS church, 411 N Saliman Road in Carson City. A social gathering at 7:00 p.m. at Great Basin Brewing Co. in Carson City will follow.

The Carson City Historical Society will be hosting ongoing events every Sunday at the historic Foreman-Roberts House and Carriage House located at 1207 North Carson in Carson City.

Following the arrest of the father whose family was allegedly living inside of the Northern Nevada Children's Museum after a toddler wandered into traffic and guns and cannabis were discovered inside, the board of the children's museum stated the facility would be closed for one week.

During that time, they said, the museum would be deep cleaned, a new manager would be hired, and the board would determine a new path forward.

John “Snowshoe” Thompson, carried the mail across the Sierra during winter snows for 20 years. He would carry 80 pounds of mail over the 180-mile round trip in just 5 days. He hand crafted his own snow skates, and would carry nothing more than a jacket, dried meat and matches. Thompson was a larger than life character, saving numerous lives, serving his community unwaveringly and devoted his life to the betterment of all.

A Heat Advisory for western Nevada, the Carson City region and northeast California is in effect Thursday through Saturday due to temperatures expected to be near or exceed 100, according to the National Weather Service.

A 36-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for alleged felony possession of stolen property after he was found riding an electric bicycle that was reported stolen Monday, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

UPDATE 9:10AM: The condition of the patient is unknown at this time. He was flown by Care Flight to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. Traffic in the area of Market and College and Emerson has been reopened, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Thursday morning to a person who reportedly jumped at the overpass of northbound I-580 and Emerson Drive.

Carson City area casino gaming generated revenue was up 1.52 percent in June, according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Statewide, casinos reported an 8.06 percent increase.

Plus, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "Part of the Machine, Rock & Pinball" exhibit happens Saturday, with free admission from 5 to 7 p.m.

On July 27, 28, and 29 the Sand Harbor Boat Beach from the boat ramp to the group area will be closed to the public for a special event. On July 28, the Sand Harbor Boat Ramp Parking Lot will be closed to all parking. Visitors can still access the park through the main entrance until the parking lot is closed for the day due to capacity, or by riding the East Shore Express.

Devil’s Ladder History Hike at Carson Pass: This is a walk down to the where the old highway crosses the Emigrant Trail at Devil’s Ladder. From there we will follow the wagon track to register rocks where the immigrants from the east wrote their names with grease from their wagon wheels. The El Dorado National Forest Interpretive Association is offering an Interpretive Hike, “The Geology of Carson Pass” at 10:30AM, and will start at the Carson Pass Information Station on California Hwy 88. Learn about the amazing geological formations around the area. These hikes are designed for people who can hike a couple of miles and appreciate the rocks as much as the flowers. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is seeing a spike of fraudulent scams with a large increase of citizens becoming victims. The following are examples of fraudulent scam activity being seen.

As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Along the Colorado opens at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery on August 4, 2022, and will be on display online at nevadahumanities.org. Along the Colorado, produced by Nevada Humanities and curated by Nevada artist Sapira Cheuk, includes paintings, mixed media, and video works that explore the water crisis faced by the desert Southwest, the nation, and the planet.

Discussions relating to the amount of retail cannabis locations in Carson City will be returning for a second time to the Planning Commission after the commission changed their previous recommendation at last month’s meeting.
