The Capital City Community Band will present its annual “Salute To Young Musicians” concert on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.

One of the featured soloists is CHS senior, Alex Garcia Perez. He started his band education on Alto Saxophone but he found the low, rich sound of the Bassoon very enticing. He began studying the bassoon in the eighth grade. After a year of lots and lots of practice, he was selected to perform with the CHS Wind Ensemble.

For the past few years, Las Vegas elementary school teacher Kristan Nigro said she has dealt with extreme, and at times violent, student behavior. In one incident, a student acted out, trashed her classroom and hit a classmate in the face with a book. That same student later threw a pair of scissors at her and just missed her face.

Kids to Parks Day is a national day of outdoor play promoted by the National Parks Trust. This year, the event will be hosted on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Mills Park.

Carson City Parks and Recreation and Sierra Nevada Cornhole hosted its inaugural St. Patrick's Day Cornhole Tournament for youth scholarships Saturday at the MAC Building in Carson City. There were 33 teams competing in two divisions, social and advanced.

Early estimates is that the event raised nearly $2,000 for youth scholarships.

Grapplers from both Carson Middle School (CMS) and Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS) qualified for the league’s Tah Neva Championship Tournament set for March 25 at Pershing County High School in Lovelock, Nev. Coaches said the wrestlers became eligible during the qualifier tournament in Fallon, Nev. last Saturday.
