Carson City deputies make arrests for DUI, mail tampering and other alleged offenses
A 35-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday for allegedly tampering with papers and opening sealed letters at a Rice Street business, both gross misdemeanor offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
According to the booking report, deputies responded to a call of an unknown male subject attempting to get into a building and throwing rocks in the parking lot.
Officers located the man in the parking lot next to a gas station. While making contact with the suspect, a second call had been made to dispatch regarding a man seen on Rice Street opening mail from a business, according to the report.
The officer asked the man if he had been walking on Rice Street prior to the contact. The man replied yes. The officer asked if he had anything to do with any form of mail on Rice. The man stated no. The deputy informed him there was a witness who claimed to see him discard opened mail in front of a business and there were security cameras at the business.
The deputy asked the man if there was any reason he would be seen discarding mail in front of the business. The man then admitted to discarding mail in the doorway of the Rice Street business, the report states.
A deputy arrived at the business, Rice Street Tattoo, to speak with the owner who showed security footage of the man discarding opened mail in the front of the entrance. The description of the man was confirmed as the same subject stopped and the same subject seen in the security footage. Bail: $5,000.
In other arrests:
— A 50-year-old Carson City woman, Sally Whooley, was arrested Saturday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and parole and probation violation. She was being held without bail for the parole and probation violation.
— A 34-year-old Silver Springs man as arrested early Sunday for suspicion of DUI, failure to maintain a lane and expired registration.
According to the booking report a deputy observed a vehicle in front of him serving to the left causing the driver-side tires to go into the number one line. The vehicle corrected and continued traveling. As it approached Oxoby Loop, the vehicle swerved to the left, causing the driver side tires to again cross into the number one lane. Due to what the deputy observed, he made a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver and noticed he had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He was asked if he had been drinking and the man replied no. He was asked if he would conduct standardized field sobriety tests to determine if he was OK to drive.
The man told the officer he would fail the test due to medical disability. The deputy told the man that he understood his concern and explained to him that if he could not do the tests, they would skip them. The man advised he would complete the tests and then announced he can't pass the test even if sober, the arrest report states.
He showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .257 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided evidentiary blood draws. Bail: $1,381.
— A 25-year-old man was arrest Saturday for suspicion of disorderly conduct, harassment and violation of bail conditions.
According to the booking report, deputies responded for a welfare check following an argument between a man and his sister, in which officers were advised the man was locked out of the residence. Dispatch advised they had four callers on the matter.
Deputies arrived and spoke with the suspect who was highly agitated, the report states. During the investigation officers learned through multiple interviews the man was high on methamphetamine and getting into altercations with neighbors, which was on video. He was arrested and booked for disorderly conduct, harassment and violation of bail conditions. Bail: $1,594.
— A 32-year-old man, Dakota Jade Stone, was arrested Sunday for suspicion of driving on a revoked license, no vehicle insurance, possession of a controlled substance and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation.
According to the booking report a deputy made a traffic stop at 11:34 p.m. for a vehicle not having a functioning license plate light.
The vehicle was bearing a California license plate with a 2022 tag affixed on the plate. The deputy made contact with the driver who advised he did not have a driver's license. Dispatch confirmed it had been revoked. Dispatch also advised the man was on DAS for driving while revoked. The man provided the deputy consent to search the vehicle, where a container with a shard of suspected methamphetamine was found. He was arrested. Bail: $4,874.
— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and failure to obey a traffic control device.
According to the booking report, at around 2:16 a.m. a deputy traveling southbound on North Stewart observed a vehicle traveling westbound on East Proctor approaching Stewart Street. The vehicle did not stop at the stop signed located at the intersection.
The officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle, where dispatch later advised the registration had expired in November 2022, the report states.
The deputy spoke with the driver, and observed he had red, watery eyes and an odor of alcohol coming from his person. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking. The man replied he had a beer at a bar.
The man agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .148 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail the man consented to evidentiary breath tests with results of .100 and .101. Bail: $1,249.
— A 57-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for a misdemeanor warrant out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A pursuit Saturday night involving a motorcycle ended with the rider in custody. The pursuit ended shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of Hells Bells Road after going through areas of East Carson City, including side streets and parking lots. We will update as more information becomes available.
