The Carson City Symphony Association presents an intimate, elegant evening of Music, Conversation, Wine, and Dessert on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., at a private home in Jacks Valley, south of Carson City. The recital will feature critically acclaimed violinist Gregory Maytan, who has appeared as concert soloist, chamber musician, and teacher in Europe, China, and the U.S.

Timathie Dean-Simpson, 27, and his wife, Julia Johanna Wayne, 29, where arrested early Thursday morning after Carson City deputies found the couple in a hotel room with 8.2 grams of methamphetamine.

According to the arrest report, deputies approached Dean-Simpson when they saw him sitting in a casino on Highway 50 East with another male subject who appeared to be a juvenile, and who also seemed to be high on meth. The subject didn't have ID, and deputies learned that he was a juvenile with a felony burglary warrant out of Lyon County.

For a decent five-hour span Wednesday, Carson High School hosted its third night time event of Winterfest week. Pertaining to the day's theme of "Way back Wednesday," the Senators hosted a diner night at Johnny Rockets.

The restaurant showcases a typical 1950's diner that tied in perfectly with the "Way back Wednesday" theme. The school received 10 percent of the total profits from everybody who attended and purchased food.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested Christen Ashlee Chamberlin, age 20, of Carson City on multiple charges related to fraudulently cashing over a dozen checks belonging to an elderly Incline Village woman.

Sheriff’s Office investigators said that during a time when Chamberlin worked as a caregiver for the victim, Chamberlin fraudulently cashed 15 checks from the victim’s bank account. The total amount of money Chamberlin obtained from the victim is estimated at just over $6,500.

Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt announced that Tal Pierre Smith, 56, of Fallon, Nev. was sentenced on Tuesday, Jan. 27 for fraudulent use of a state Procurement Visa Card assigned to Smith to carry out his duties as a Supply Technician.

“State employees are held to a high standard as public servants and should not abuse the trust vested in them by misappropriating public funds,” said Attorney General Laxalt. “I will continue to protect taxpayer dollars by prosecuting crooks who masquerade as public servants.”

A conservative activist and anti-tax firebrand has helped organize three political action committees with the goal of recalling Nevada Assembly Republicans that he says haven't come out strongly enough against the governor's proposed tax increases.

Nevada hasn't executed a prisoner since 2006 and none are currently scheduled, but the Ely State Prison wants a new $800,000 death chamber.

Greg Cox, director of the state Department of Corrections, said Tuesday it makes sense to have executions take place at Ely, where all death row inmates are housed.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Sarah Nicholson-Jones, 36 of Carson City, Tuesday night on South Park Drive for felony parole and probation violation, and a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area on a report of a suspicious vehicle. They contacted the two subjects in the vehicle, and found that Nicholson-Jones had an outstanding warrant. In addition, Parole and Probation wanted her held on a violation charge. She is being held without bail.

Carson High School announced the names of the elite who will get to be called candidates and royalty for the school's annual Winterfest week. This year's candidates have come from all walks of life, but as it would appear they have come out on top of the student body. The king candidates are: Jake Jones, Seamus Burns, Brandon Allen, Daniel Cihigoyenetche and Brady Rivera. Colby Brown was also elected a king candidate as well, but had to withdraw due to prior commitments during the week.

A GoFundMe account has been started by local Tiffany Dubois for an adorable dog in need. Fuzzy is an Australian Shepherd dog who is about 5 years old. In October he was tied by a leash to the front porch of a rural animal shelter in Yerington, Nevada. He was left with a teddy bear, french fries and a note attached to his leash saying that someone found him but couldn't care for him. The animal shelter took him in and have been caring for him since.

Carson Tahoe has been providing care to Nevada’s inmate population for many years. Previously the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) covered the care of these prisoners through a private, third party insurer - Hometown Health Plan (HHP).

With the advent of the ACA, NDOC decided to do away with private insurance for its prisoners needing inpatient services.

A 19-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of residential burglary and misdemeanor possession of stolen property after he and two others were arrested Monday inside a Siskiyou Drive home, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Gabriel Ramirez Mendoza is being held on $26,137 bail.
