Meet the Dynamic Duo of Bert and Ernie, twin brothers born on May 26, 2023. Just 6 months old, these two will provide you with double the love and twice the entertainment. Before I get to your report, I would like to thank a few anglers that weighed in on my last report, mainly in regards to the California Boaters card.

The annual Carson Mall Holiday Market has returned for another year, featuring local artists, unique gifts, and of course — Santa Photos!

The market is located inside the Carson Mall and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

Western Nevada College’s Financial Aid Office is bringing its services to the community with a three-month pilot program at Carson City Library.

Happy Friday Carson City and say hello to our newest pet of the week this week, Amelia!

Amelia is an 8-month-old pup. She came in needing medical attention to her eyelids. Her lower eyelids rolled inward, which our amazing veterinarian was able to fix. She is still healing but is doing great! She is looking for a home to help her heal and learn good manners and cool tricks.

A crash Friday morning has traffic backed up on I-580 south as of 8 a.m.

The crash appears to have happened between the Highway 50 and Fairview exits.

It is not known at this time when the crash will be cleared. If possible, motorists should seek alternate routes.

During the holiday season, it’s everyone’s job to step in and help where and how they can. For Justin Colburn of Sierra Glass Mill, he chose to help out while doing something he loves: glass blowing.

The Battle Born Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is a women's volunteer service organization, promoting Patriotism, Education, and Historic Preservation. Meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month at 12 noon for one hour, this Dec. 20th through May, at the Staybridge Inn & Suites, 972 Retail Ct, Carson City.

CATS, Young Actor’s Edition has roared into town, with one last weekend to see the family friendly musical at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City. After his promotion ceremony to Chief Warrant Officer 5 in Reno on Friday, Carson City resident Steve Nielsen compared his military career to a rare celestial event.

“Every star in the galaxy had to align just right for me to reach this point in my career,” said Nielsen, the longtime Nevada Army Guard aviator whose extraordinary life has included several brushes with death, behavioral health challenges and – as he attests – some unadulterated pure luck.

Police say a suspect is dead after reports of an active shooter situation at UNLV on Wednesday.

Officials are expected to release more details about the shooting, which unfolded a little before noon on the UNLV campus. UNLV officials said in an emergency notification at 12:45 p.m. that the suspect had been contained, while urging students to continue sheltering in place.

NVFDW.org announces video contest

The Board of Directors of the Nevada Federation of Democratic Women (NVFDW) has launched the inaugural Annual Political Short Film Contest on Friday, December 1, 2023.

The contest will accept entries of up to 90-second videos promoting the NVFDW Platform and Democratic Credo from young adults and older who reside in the state of Nevada.

The Carson City School District and its governing board of trustees were highly distinguished at the Nevada Association of School Boards Annual Conference in Las Vegas this past weekend. District employees and trustees were heavily acknowledged, earning nearly half of all the awards (7 out of 16 – in 13 categories) presented among the 17 districts statewide.

After 25 years as a local antique shop, Hanifin's Antiques in Carson City will close in the next few weeks. Owner Michael Robbins presented Carson City SPCA director Susan Paul with a check for $2,500. Robbins says he is very happy to donate to local charities in his last weeks in Carson City.

On Friday, Dec. 1, Carson City Moose Lodge No. 2709 members participated in the Empty Bowls fundraiser held at Carson Mall. Attendees were encouraged to purchase a hand crafted, unique pottery bowl from the Ogres-Holm Pottery Studio for a $15 donation and were then able to fill each with a soup, chili or spaghetti provided by 20 different local restaurants.

The Moose effort was coordinated by David Wroth and presented the check for $250 to Jim Peckham of FISH.

RENO — As we gear up for the festive season, Waste Management unwraps the secrets of holiday recycling and provides you with tips on separating the “holiday gifts” for the recycling bin from the “holiday lumps of coal” for the trash bin.

Smoke can be seen Monday in east Carson City from Empire Ranch Golf Course where they are doing open burning.

The Carson City Fire Department is allowing open burning through Dec. 17, 2023 dependent upon permit status and daily weather conditions.
