Carson City's Pioneer Academy students experience medical field work at ROC
Last month Pioneer Academy Anatomy and Physiology students enjoyed a field work experience day at the Reno Orthopedic Center funded by our community partners at Envirolution.
The Carson City students were able to witness first-hand the demands of a career in the medical field. Students shadowed professionals in the field including X-Ray technicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physician's assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and orthopedic surgeons.
They learned about the job demands of each occupation, the education needed to obtain the job title, local schools where they can receive their certification, and expected salaries once they attain the position.
They also participated in a learning session with 3-D bone models of femurs which had been broken and the students were required to identify the type of fracture and the plausible cause of each type of break. It was an exciting day of new experiences and firsthand learning.
