Happening Today: HopeFest, Carson Tahoe Health’s pinnacle cancer patient fundraiser, returns as cornhole tournament

CARSON CITY — In partnership with Sierra Nevada Realtors, the 12th annual HopeFest returns, in-person, as Cornhole’s Best for HopeFest, a rockin’ cornhole tournament. The tournament will raise funds to support community members facing cancer by providing assistance with rent and mortgage payments, gas vouchers, groceries and more.
Additionally, funds will help pay for the refurbishment of Carson Tahoe Health’s no-cost Merriner Cottages which provide lodging for cancer patients and their families. The tournament begins on Friday, Aug. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the Curry St. parking lot across from McFadden Plaza in Carson City. Delivering the highest standard of comprehensive cancer care in the region, Carson Tahoe Health provides various forms of support for individuals battling cancer and their families. Those services include no-cost lodging for patients and families at their Merriner Cottages. The cottages, which have housed an average of 1,875 night stays per year for a total of over 29,147 nights of free lodging for patients and their families since they opened in 2006, will be refurbished with money raised from the tournament to continue to provide homes for families dealing with the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis.
Proceeds from HopeFest will also provide those individuals facing cancer with funds for mortgage payments, groceries, gas vouchers and more. Previous years have raised over $100,000 and Carson Tahoe Health hopes to top that number this year as HopeFest returns in-person. “Carson Tahoe Health believes that communities are vital when it comes to healthcare and encourages anyone who can to sign-up with a team, or buy raffle tickets (to be entered to win $10,000 cash or a new car thanks to Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota, a proud sponsor of this year’s event) and watch the games while enjoying a variety of grilled barbecue favorites.”
