Donna Kapala never expected to be a complete match but, after a series of tests, she learned that one of her kidneys could save the life of someone she met 41 years prior on a teaching assignment to Australia. Her friend Sheila Hoban, one of the “six amigas,” was on the national waiting list and thanks to Kapala’s life-saving gift, she is alive and healthy today.

Ruthlee Caloiaro, 63, of Carson City, unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 17, 2023, and while she will be missed tremendously, she now is in Heaven for eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Carson High School students Gabriel Brackin, 17-year-old senior, Wyatt Johnson,16-year-old freshman, Dameon Lister, 15-year-old freshman, and Daniel Novoa, 18-year-old senior were recently recognized with “Outstanding Citizen Awards” for the aide and unsolicited assistance they provided to a stranded community member on a snowy day last month. One of the featured soloists is CHS senior, Alex Garcia Perez. He started his band education on Alto Saxophone but he found the low, rich sound of the Bassoon very enticing. Molly McGrew has been invited to represent the USA in the Coast 2 Coast International Athletics Track and Field meet, held in Queensland, Australia on July 15-16 2023 at the Gold Coast Performance Centre.

Molly has lived in Dayton, Nev., her whole life and for the past 4 years has attended Dayton High School. During her years at Dayton High she has participated in basketball, soccer and track.

A 35-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday for allegedly tampering with papers and opening sealed letters at a Rice Street business, both gross misdemeanor offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Carson City Parks and Recreation and Sierra Nevada Cornhole hosted its inaugural St. Patrick's Day Cornhole Tournament for youth scholarships Saturday at the MAC Building in Carson City. There were 33 teams competing in two divisions, social and advanced.

A 47-year-old woman was arrested Thursday for suspicion of giving false identification to avoid prosecution, fraudulent possession of two credit cards and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
