The Carson City Board of Supervisors are seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee. There are three open positions, each for a term that expires Jan. 2017.

A Carson City man faces a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after he and his girlfriend got into an argument over the TV remote after they had been drinking.
The 53-year-old man told authorities that he slapped the remote out of his girlfriend's hands and grabbed her wrists after she complained that he watched too much television.

Deputies were called to the 600 block of Armory Way on Oct. 16 after the daughter of the woman in the incident called authorities from Vacaville, Calif., saying her mother had been battered.

An issues and candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters will be at 6 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Carson City Library Auditorium. There will be a presentation by candidates for Assembly District 40; candidates for the school board and a discussion on the merits of Nevada's Ballot Question 1 that, if passed, would change the state's constitution and allow the Legislature to bring itself into special session.

Carson City Fire Department and EMTs have responded this afternoon to a motorcycle crash off of Clear Creek, one mile from Carson City off of Highway 50. The accident was reported to be near Lake Tahoe Golf Club Drive. Care Flight has been called. The accident was reported at 3:46 p.m.
The rider is male, approximately 200 pounds. His condition is unknown at the time. The Nevada Highway Patrol is responding.

All aboard the V&T Railroad for an unforgettable Halloween train ride where the living spirits of Northern Nevada can lift and embolden cancer patients and their care givers.

CARSON CITY – Initial claims for unemployment insurance fell in September to their lowest level in five years, dropping to under 14,000 in a month for the first time since September 2007, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) reported today.

CARSON CITY – Nevada retailers are expected to add more than 4,000 seasonal positions through December, the Retail Association of Nevada (RAN) said today.

The estimate is based on an assumption that hiring in 2012 will be comparable to last year, when the state added 4,100 retail positions between September and December for a 3.2 percent increase in total employment in the sector.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar listed the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City as a National Historic Landmark.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on Wednesday announced the designation of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad McKeen Motor Car #70 based in Carson City as one of 27 national historic landmarks.
Calling the McKeen Motor Car #70, Virginia & Truckee Railway Motor Car #22, "the best surviving example of the first commercially viable application of internal combustion power in a self-propelled railroad car" the designation possess exceptional value and quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States, Salazar said.

A Carson City man faces felony drug charges after authorities received a search warrant and found heroin and methamphetamine. Edward Dale Cheney, 23, was arrested Oct. 15 and faces the drug charges as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a suspended sentence.

This information is in response to several recent letters to the editor that have proposed the consolidation of libraries in Carson City. Our goal is to provide our community a better understanding of the types of libraries in Carson City. It is true there are libraries who serve the public in Carson City, but Carson City Library is the only “public library.” The other libraries are not “public libraries” and here is how they differ:

A unique arrangement between Carson City Library and Smith’s Food and Drug Center has opened a pathway between the library and local supermarket — literally. For many years staff and volunteers parked directly behind the back of the library. Alternative parking was considered when parking in the back lot was no longer an option.

The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission announced Wednesday some minor adjustments to JAC Routes 2A and 2B, including the extension of service to the Parkway Professional Center on Goni Road and the new Nevada Health Centers location on Research Way.

“Our customers alerted us to the need to access medical and social service facilities in this area and we responded with this route adjustment,” said Ken Smithson, Transit Coordinator in a news release. “This allows customers to ride safely to and from their destinations in this area.”

It is time that Carson City gets behind their college’s athletic programs. Western Nevada College has had athletics since 2005. They have had rodeo, women’s soccer, women’s softball, and perhaps the cornerstone of the entire athletics, the men’s baseball. All of these teams have amped up the enrollment of Western Nevada College and yet, the athletics continue to struggle financially because of the lack of local support.

A series of car burglaries on the northwest side of Carson City has resulted in two arrests with more expected.

Jeremy James Morales, the inmate who escaped from the Storey County Jail on Oct. 1 was found Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Morales was found near Mound House outside the Storey County line, said Sheriff Gerald Antinoro. He was dehydrated and had injuries to his feet. He was taken into custody and booked back into the Storey County Jail. He escaped by locking a deputy inside his cell when the deputy was doing bed checks.
He was and is being held on charges of sexual assault involving a minor. Morales was returned to the jail and faces additional charges.
