Search warrant leads to heroin and meth found inside Carson City home

A Carson City man faces felony drug charges after authorities received a search warrant and found heroin and methamphetamine. Edward Dale Cheney, 23, was arrested Oct. 15 and faces the drug charges as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a suspended sentence.

According to the arrest report officers attempted to locate Cheney in the neighborhood of Century Circle with a warrant issued for his arrest. Officers went to the residence and saw a vehicle belonging to the mother of Cheney's girlfriend. Officers looked inside the home and saw Cheney in the west bedroom of the home. Officers knocked on the door and his girlfriend opened it, stepped outside and when asked if Cheney was inside, she said he wasn't but then later admitted he was in the back bedroom, according to the arrest report.

The officer opened the door and asked Cheney to come out. The man complied and was detained and cuffed. He was searched and inside his pants pockets was a piece of aluminum foil, two hollowed-out pens and a lighter with the flame safety broken off, according to the arrest report.

The foil had black burn trails on it and one of the pens had burn marks on the end, the report stated. Cheney was asked if there was any additional drugs or paraphernalia in the home and he replied no. A deputy then found two glass pipes, commonly used to smoke meth, in the bedroom where Cheney was in. The pipes were sitting on top of an open tool box tray and in plain view, the report stated. Officers asked for a consent to search and Cheney declined. The man was taken to jail. Suspecting there were drugs at the home, officers applied for and received a search warrant from the DAs office and a judge. The warrant was granted shortly after midnight on Oct. 16. Located within the bedding was methamphetamine. Inside a heater vent officers found heroin wrapped in a small ripped piece of a plastic baggie and tied at the top.

A Carson City man faces misdemeanor larceny and battery charges after allegedly stealing sunglasses, rubber bands and Gummy Bears from a grocery store and assaulting the store's security officer. A 16-year-old girl was also arrested as an accomplice.

According to the arrest report the 19-year-old man became violent with grocery store security after shoplifting in the 3700 block of South Carson Street. The security guard chased the man to the parking lot of the store and attempted to stop him from entering the car occupied by three others. The 16-year-old girl, who was the driver of the car, then took off with the security guard partially inside the car, dragging him through the parking lot.

The man was seen leaving in a vehicle and license plate numbers were taken. Officers arrived to a Baker street address and found four people sitting at a table in the back yard. When an officer used a flash light to get their attention they took off running. The officer opened up a gate to the back yard and spoke with a 16-year-old female who identified herself. The officer told her to call her mom and then asked how many people were hiding in the house.

The mother gave authorities consent to enter the home, according to the arrest report. The subjects were detained. The man admitted to the larceny and resisting store security's attempt to arrest him. A videotape of the incident was booked into evidence which showed the confrontation, the man violently resisting arrest and the parking lot incident. The 16-year-old girl denied knowing of the confrontation but the videotape shows that all those in the vehicle watched the confrontation, the report states.

Stephen Michael Saunders, 30, was found walking eastbound on Menlo Drive at Lompa Lane by a Capitol Patrol officer. Contact was made with him and an officer told him to stop walking. The man continued to walk. He was asked again to stop walking and he refused.

A deputy grabbed Saunders by the right wrist and another officer observed the man making a fist with his left hand and was about to hit the officer, according to the arrest report. The man was cuffed and put into the patrol car after resisting arrest. Found on him was a pair of black sunglasses with a sticker on the front lens in his right front pocket and a 24-ounce can of beer in his left front pocket, the arrest report stated. Authorities learned the man was under supervision of alternative sentencing with a no alcohol clause. He was taken into custody for violation of those conditions. He faces the shoplifting charge, violation of alternative sentencing conditions and resisting a police officer.
