A Carson City woman died on Saturday in a single vehicle rollover accident on State Route 207 in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

CARSON CITY – The two candidates in the race for the state Senate District 5 seat in Henderson debated the issues today in a televised exchange, finding more agreement than division on the all important subject of education reform.

Food For Thought, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing healthy food to hungry children in Carson City, Silver Springs and parts of Douglas County, has moved its headquarters and will hold an open house to show off its new digs.

Alpine County's Indian Creek Campground, adjacent to Indian Creek Reservoir, will close for the season at noon on Oct. 8, the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office announced.
The campground will be closed through winter, and reopen May 3, 2013.
The east side of Indian Creek Reservoir will still be available for access off the entry road maintained by Alpine County, weather-permitting.

Elaine and I just returned from a fabulous, four-day, three-night visit to the Sierra Nevada, just west of Bishop, Calif. I highly recommend that each and every one of you duplicate our fun-filled trip and be sure to do it as soon as you can within the next two weeks.
The purpose of our visit to the mountains was two-fold:
1. To photograph the fall colors of the Quaking Aspen trees and bushes.
2. To fish for trout in some of the waters in that area.
We succeeded beyond our wildest imagination on both purposes.

CARSON CITY – The Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce today commended Sen. Michael Roberson, R-Las Vegas, for his commitment to seek $20 million a year in funding for English language learner programs in the Clark County School District.

"Flockers" will deliver the birds to unsuspecting yards where they have been directed to roost, usually arriving unnoticed in the cloak of darkness. The recipient will be left with an explanation and care instructions. After 24-48 hours the Flamingo Advanced Retrieval Team (F.A.R.T.) will remove the flamingos and bring them to the next "victim."

In the past few years, he's seen something that's become all too common: "Very young kids just out of high school overdosing, lying at home on their bed, and they've passed away.
Drug abuse here is more fatal than ever. After programs were successful in fighting the epidemic of meth in Nevada, heroin has taken its place — and it's a deadlier replacement.

At 3:17 pm Wednesday, South Lake Tahoe police and fire personnel responded to the report of a structure fire at the Forest Manor, a multi unit two story apartment complex at 3754 Forest Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. As firefighters began to extinguish flames from unit 1 downstairs, police officers assisted with the evacuation of the entire complex.

High school teachers and students are invited to get involved in Nevada Poetry Out Loud, the dynamic poetry program that is structured similarly to the National Spelling Bee, but focuses on literary heritage through memorization and performance of classic and contemporary poetry.
